I have never used a break on my rifles, but have shot near them. The blast hitting me in the face and the noise has kept me from considering them. With age creeping in and several shoulder problems I have been thinking about them. I still don't want to use them hunting, however. What I was thinking of is using them for sighting in or testing handloads. Has anyone notice any impact shift when switching from shooting with a break vs without?

Yes, there is often an impact shift. You also won't notice the blast so much as the shooter; it's directed to your sides.

Can't say. I have one on my .06 for the very problems you mentioned. Even my 6.5 Swede bothers this fake shoulder of mine. Why would you want to take it off?

When properly engineered there's no POI shift using a brake. Now what's acceptable POI shift? Going from a .5" Mean Radius to 1.5" Mean Radius?? What's the "allowable limit"?? That's where the real world data comes into play.

Been shooting rifles with muzzle brakes for over 30 yrs., including rifles with modest recoil to start with (7mm08, 280).
I'm always careful about ear protection, even when hunting. And, I don't shoot from prone position (I think PRS shooters hate brakes because they kick up dust off the ground).
Muzzle brakes can be unpleasant for the person next to you at the range, but I tend to go when there aren't a lot a folks around anyway. And, if someone does happen to sit next to me, I'll give them a little heads-up before I pull the trigger.
Taking off the muzzle brake, in my experience, can change POI, and even group size, but it depends on the rifle (Heck, I've even seen dramatic changes to POI and group size with and without a Magnetospeed chronograph attached). So, I tend to just leave mine on all the time.
With the brake, in fact, its not unusual to actually see, through the scope, your prey's reaction to the bullet strike (Was riding around midday, on top of a high-racked vehicle, while culling does on a south Texas deer lease. Took a shot at about 240 yards, but the doe ran off. The guy sitting next to me said I'd missed, but I knew I'd hit her 'cause I'd seen her flinch with the impact. Sure enough, we found her not 20 yards from the spot).

I would take it off because I don't notice recoil yet while shooting at game and I may have other people around me. Also, I don't wear hearing protection while hunting, but maybe should. I do give them to my kids to wear.

I’ve had up to a 2 moa shift with some brakes. If you’re going to use one for sighting in, keep it on there.

I’ve only used radial brakes.
Not the kind that they look like they go on an army tank and have to be timed….

Custom design I came up with for my .375 RUM. I hotrod her a bit and wanted bit of taming off of the bench... She will clear a range in two shots... blows over Coke cans easy... next table over... Recoil is 30% less... maybe 35%
If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.
