I picked up a contender with 2 bbls in a trade. One is a 12" compensated 30-30 bbl and the other is a 10" 22lr bbl. What I am interested in is either a 308. 30-06 or a 358win bbl.

For the right bbl I will trade both for it if need be. The simmons on the 22 bbl will go with the bbl but the scope on the 30-30 bbl is not included.

Thanks
Joel

Dude, wrong platform for high intensity cartridges. The Encore will handle those cartridges and up. What you have is a fine pistol that is accurate, lightweight and suitable to low and medium powered centerfire cartridges. Beware, I have seen 30/30 Contender barrels rechambered to 308...can you say PIPE BOMB? Keep what you have and use within range, or get the TC Encore in the caliber(s) you want. Best wishes, Bill

Joel,

I really hate to be the bearer of sad tidings, but.... The T/C Contender is limited to about 42K max... Thus it will not take the pressures of the .308/.30-06/.358 Win.

Perhaps you are confused by the Encore? The Encore will take all of the above. However it is bigger, heavier, and nowhere near as sleek as the Contender. frown

May I suggest a .35 Remington? Trust me on this; a hot loaded .35 Rem is all one wants in a Contender in terms of recoil.

Thanks guys. I'm just now expieramenting with this. Thanks for the heads up. Never dealt with the TC line before, so I will work with the 30-30 with good bullets.

Thanks again for stopping a disaster.

Joel,

I have a 16.25 inch ported 45-70 bbl for the Contender if your interested in something that kills like the wrath of god on the contender platform. I have 200 rounds down the tube with 150 being 500 grain cast lead and the others 405 grain Remingtons. The gentlemen above are correct about contender pressure limits, so to get more from the contender you have to go to bigger cases with lower pressures. PM me if you have any interest.

That 16.25" barrel in .45-70 is like the Hammer of Thor.... it'll flatten everything. And, it's long enough to go with a carbine stock...... hella nice rig.

No, you aren't. You might be interested in a 7-30 Waters, 444, 45/70, 308 Bellm, 358 Bellm, 375 Win, 375 JDJ, but you are NOT interested in a 308/30-06/358Win on a Contender frame!!

If you want a 308/30-06/358 you need the ENCORE. Someone might want to trade an Encore for your Contender.
