Just got an email from the publisher that my advance copy is in. I emailed them back asking when copies will be available for sale. Will post here when I find out.

They emailed me that it would be 8 to 10 weeks before the books will be available. It sure wasn't that long between the author's copy and regular books on the "Collector's Guide."

A guy named John at the publisher sent me an email yesterday after I got off the internet saying the book won't be available to slobs like me until Feb 28. They have to provide copies to backorders and retailers before the author can get copies. Being a writer with this publisher reminds me of being a movie extra. Movie extras suck hind tit behind everyone else.

Well that just seems wrong that the writer of a book can’t even get a copy of their book when everyone else does.🤦‍♂️

On the bright side though, that seems to indicate to me there is pretty good demand for it. Every cloud...

I am getting a preliminary copy in a few days. But they say I can't get a large number for resale until Feb 28. That's ridiculous. The printer will do the whole run in a very short time then move on to something else. Maybe my preliminary copy was air mailed from where ever the book was printed (probably China) but it won't take 3 1/2 months for the rest of them to arrive. I suspect that the fact that I sold about 400 copies of the first book in a very short time cut into the sales of the commercial retailers and by delaying shipping books to me they are giving the commercial retailers more time to take customers away from me. One of their excuses is that they have to fill backorders first. To me that sounds like the publisher and amazon already have a lot of orders that they are going to ship before they let me have copies.
I have no idea what the demand will be. Some people on here have no interest in engraved Savages but bought copies of the first book. I am hoping that it will sell to non Savage enthusiasts who are into engraved firearms. Rick's original research into the engravers should also help sell copies to people who want to know more about the engravers who engraved a lot of other popular firearms as well as their work on the Savages.
I hope all of you will wait until I can provide you with an inscribed and signed copy of the book.

Seems to me pretty much everyone who got a signed book 1, will want a signed book 2 to go with it. I certainly do. I’m waiting for mine.

99Ozarks, I'll put you on the list for one of each. I should have plenty of numbers available in the high 100's and low 200's. I sold those books at gun shows in Ohio, Kansas and Colorado.
For those of you who don't know. I numbered the first book 1 of 500, 2 of 500, etc. I will number the second book in the same way, giving priority to duplicate the number in the new book for people who have the earlier book with a number.

I don't know why the last 2 pics are blurred. They look much better in the book. Tue's engraved K's look just like his A engraving on the 1899's. The most noticeable thing about Gough's engraving is the circle in the middle is less intricate than Tue's. There is a lot of variation in the K engraving attributed to Gough. Probably because he had other people working with him. The engraving on the PE's and DE's varied a lot also.

Looking back 20 plus years to when Savage levers appeared on the Gun and Knife internet site with 10 plus questions for every answer. Now we have three new books covering just about every aspect of the Savage lever rifles. It is something I would never have imaged at that time. I think there is still another books worth out there that we have not discovered. We just have to continue looking and recording the data.

A big " thank's" to Doug Murray for setting the corner stone and all the 24HourCampFire members, current and past, that helped with the puzzle...one piece at a time. We ain't done yet!

I have to echo Rick99's sentiment. When I joined in 2003, I knew NOTHING about 99's. Now, I know enough to be dangerous. I even learned to reload for my HP22 from this site. The journey has been amazing thanks to efforts like David and all the other members here.

I wouldn't have missed it. It is FUN!

It is definitely a labor of love. I am really happy with the engraved book.
I have thought of a few revisions for the collector's guide. The transition 99E is one. I didn't know it existed when I wrote the collector's guide. I also failed to include a 99A with the medium weight barrel. Fortunately, I have one of each. I may do a definitive section on 1899 checkering also. I touched on the checkering quite a bit in the engraved book but I didn't group all the info into one place.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

New member here - first post, but I have followed threads for a few months. I thought I saw a comment from you somewhere that you would send a signed copy of volume 1 and 2 for $125? I can’t find the comment now. I plan to send you a check for volume 2, but would love to get both volumes if able.
I have reached out to you in the past outside of the forum regarding an engraved 1899. It was not factory engraved. When I get more competent on this sight I hope to post some pics of it to see if any members can help me learn more about it.
