We used to have a ranch at Pinon, near the northern edge of Fort Bliss. You couldn’t get GPS or cell service to work, until you got away from the range. Pinon is on the other side of the mountains from WSMR and Ft. Bliss, so that's kind of strange. I'd take your word for it, though. We were southwest of Piñon. The range comes further east just south of the mountains. We were about 8 miles from the range.

Visited the Snow Ranch a couple of times...I guess that would have been east and a little south of you. Worked in Dell City for a Deere dealer for a while and ran all over the place shooting jackrabbits. Lived in El Paso in my youth and used to take the backroads through there to get up to Rio Penasco. I really like the area around Pinon, Weed. and the Penasco area. Wish I could retire there.

A lot of weapons systems testing involves telemetry from the weapon to a ground station. I would guess they’re transmitting some interference (jamming) to preclude outside sources from intercepting the telemetry.
I think the majority of missiles I fired on missile shoots in involved “TM (telemetry) packs” because in many cases we were testing limits of the missiles, service life (flight hours, carrier landings), etc.

Do they still make paper maps of the Santa Fe area? I have AAA auto insurance, they still print and hand out free maps to members. Of course only us Boomers know how to use them. Old man got us all the way across the country with one of their Trip Ticks, flip book things. I like old paper maps as sometimes they show gravel/dirt roads not listed anymore. I guess OnX and such would show them, if they're still visible from above.

Just curious if that sort of thing happens near Area 51 too? It does, and sets off alarms when detected.

Los Alamos, maybe. ~ 30 miles, by road. Much less as the crow flies. GPS in downtown Santa Fe is distorted by all the hallucinating locals living there. I'm positive! I lived and worked in that area for about 6 - 8 years. Strange folks there are NOT the visitors!

You know all those ancient rock carvings in New Mexico that show spirals? Quite a few SF denizens have spirals like that in their eyes!

We lived in SF for about 2 years before we couldn't stand it anymore and went back to Alaska. My daughter is still there in the Paramedic Academy at SFCC. I don't know how she can stand being a little red speck surrounded by all those blue whack jobs.
The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.

I was about 15 miles out of Santa Fe when I lost bluetooth connectivity in my truck. I thought it was some kind of fluke with my phone. Same kind of deal?
