This is the current record.

[Linked Image]
This has just hit the gossip pipeline. "All I know so far is that this kid purportedly shot this 240-inch, 265-pound giant with a muzzleloader near Shreveport, LA." quoted from mikehanback.blogs.com/.../index.html

[Linked Image]

And this is another I thought I'd include. Shot 10-3-07 w/ bow. Potential new state archery record.

So what do ya'll think?

I think we (Louisiana) deserves a North American Whitetail Mag Cover, don't you?

I thought about titling the post "Like Mass?"

spencer,

not sure what that deer will score although he is very impressive.

FYI - The "McMurray Buck" (top pic in your thread, scored 281 6/8 B&C , and has 31 points. Harvested in 1994 and is the current Louisiana State Record Non-typical Whitetail. Also nick-named the "Louisiana Freak" because of it's unusual shape.

Regarding a magazine cover, Louisiana has nice deer but our state is not even in the Top 30 list of states that produce monster whitetails.

here is a state/county map of all Boone & Crockett deer entries

[Linked Image]

and a list of the top whitetail deer 10 states

State # of entries
1. IOWA 615
2. MINNESOTA 608
3. WISCONSIN 589
4. ILLINOIS 552
5. TEXAS 316
6. MISSOURI 285
7. KENTUCKY 279
8. KANSAS 255
9. OHIO 235
10. MICHIGAN 155

If you want to see some "Monster" deer, go to the Los Cazadores website (link below) and check out the leader board in all categories. The large amount of rainfall has helped Texas yeild some tremendous deer this year, and rifle season has just started.

ps - next time I pass thru Baton Rouge, I'll stop off in Port Allen and say hello.

Yea, I read that article too. As far as the Potential record goes, I'm just passing info along as I heard it. I Know the current holder scored 281. First thing I said when I saw the pics of the new buck was "He won't beat the record, not enough length in there, plenty of mass, but his typical score will be too low.

As far as the NAW cover goes. This buck easily meets their min. req. and beats alot of the bucks that have been on the cover in the past. This deer has character, and catches your eye. Just the kind of deer NAW likes on their cover.

This is the TRUE Louisiana Freak. unscorable by B&C, due to the lack of main beams.

Me too. I'd be skeered to pull the trigger on that last freak for fear it would get mad and try to bite me or something. grin

I haven't a clue what the antlers score, but 265-lbs? I hope the guy that weighed the deer isn't the guy that scores it.

I 'spose it could be a really bad photo.
