It dressed out at 183. Pretty big for a WTD down here. Heaviest one I have shot in about a decade down here. Last was a 176 IIRC in area 41. Was a big 8 also. 135 to 150 dressed is usually the norm around here. 150 to 160 is big. Shot a big 10pt 6.5 yr old plus tooth aged at the kill shack. That deer was around 140 pds. Most def on the back side of his prime. FTCKY stocked Wisconsin does and Oklahoma bucks back in the 70,s to reestablish the herd. They blended eventually with the native herd over time. Actually it was U.S.Navy funded on Clarksville base on FTCKY. Where they stored nuke wpns back then in a place called the birdcage. Referred to now as Cav Country/ 17th Avn rgt area. TWRA trapped alot of deer from FTCKY and used them in their restocking programs also back then. And Tn and Ky is also on the boundary area of northern WTD and Southern WTD varieties. " small bucks with big racks" "Big body bucks with big or small racks" Food sources. Habitat Large 125 150 pd does Skinny 85 100 pd old does Genetic mix box of chocolates kinda stuff.

Yeah, I show pics of our mountain deer over here to midwestern hunters you get the "well isn't that a cute little deer". I'm just like "feel free to come to Appalachia and show us how it's done" I didn't shoot anything this weekend, helped push this one to my bud from PA's son on their big farm here. They only had 1-1/2 days to hunt and half of that was in heavy rains from the front that came through Friday. His dad and I pushed him out of a cedar thicket to him.

673; Morning my friend, I hope you're all doing well.
Regarding the nice whitetail, I say - Right?!!??
I'd be happy to actually see a whitetail buck this season as it's been a couple years since we've laid eyes on one up back of the place.
If I'm not wrong we've seen a total of 4 whitetail deer since we started scouting for a ram in the last week of August. There's not a lot of them left down here, yet the MoE insists on leaving the antlerless season open....
But for sure hearty congratulations to the folks who've been killing the very nice bucks! Good to see!!
All the best.

Bad terrain and very few deer. Any deer killed there is a trophy in my mind. They’re like shooting fish in a barrel here. I shot the one above before 8am. I’d seen over 20 other deer already. First time I went hunting this year. It ain’t like that in East Tennessee! I can’t speak to Virginia or North Carolina as I’ve never hunted either.

This is Virginia. We're overrun with deer here. 600 acre farm with a small river wrapping partly around it. About 60/40 pasture vs. woods with intentional strips of cedar breaks here and there in the pastures. Some run 200+ yards long by maybe 30 yards deep. Deer get in the breaks to hide etc We saw this one enter one of the cedar breaks and made our move on him.

Wow!!!! Did you get those this year? Looks like a mule deer rack on a giant whitetail. Pardon my ignorance, but which is it? I’ve never even seen a live moose. That thing is awesome!

You sure shot a nice one!

I shot a big 3.5 yr old 5 pt on slumlords place 3 yrs ago. All.I was seeing was one beam putting a walk, jog, run and repeat move on it over 2 ridges and one valley. About 300 yds of cat and mouse stuff on him before I got the shot.
Thought it was a big 8 from the one beam veiw I was getting. 1st deer I killed with my mauser.
Had a shriveled up ball sack. Looked like a button bucks... Big ole mutant 5 pt. Kept the rack because of how it all went down. Slumlord shot a real nice 8 about an hour earlier and we were recovering it . Then the one I shot showed up before I could start gutting his. Seen the buck grabbed the mauser and started hauling azz cause I seen I had terrian to use. Left slumlord just standing their out of the blue.
I was shucking day pack and heavy clothing on the move using terrian mask so the deer couldnt see me cutting distance on him.
Slumlord watching the whole thing go down.
That is a good buck you killed none the less man !!! Looks like a 3 or 4 yr old.
👍👍👍
