For mamma in the living room. Keep her cozy in the evening. Took about 10 hours start to finish. Stove is a Quadrafire Discovery 1, black double wall pipe inside, stainless outside. Saturday was crawling through the access holes to the attic and figuring out location options. Decided on location #4 after the first three were too tangled with air ducts and trusses. After cutting a hole in the ceiling, I felt around for clearances from trusses, air ducts, and other structure. Centered the 12x12 square hole and cut it out, boxed it in from below and secured the ceiling box. I needed a screw thru the roof as a marker for the pipe flashing piece so I tied a plumb bob string to a screw and with 42" of extensions on the screw gun, was able to center the screw with the stove pipe hole. Dropped the plumb bob to the floor to measure clearances and position the stove and hearth. Laid the hearth on the floor and removed the carpet, placed the stove and installed the stovepipe. Cleaned up for the night and cut the hole in the roof today. Sealed up the roof jack installed the pipe and cap and viola, wood heat. A Fine Looking Installation!! A weekend well spent. A Fine Looking Installation!!

probably a little different for me but I bought an older fireplace insert and put it in my house. started reading up on how insurance companies require stoves to be UL listed, EPA compliant etc., read up on how to install one to code - so we put in a stainless steel liner, insulated it, put a cap on the chimney, blah, blah, blah, put an adapter on the stove to covert it to a 6" stove pipe but I'm thinking, no way is my insurance provider going to let me put this 80's era fireplace insert in. I was prepared to go buy a new stove , had my eye on a Canadian brand called Drolet. anyways, I call them, they could care less. Since I had an existing masonry fireplace, my guy said an insert was actually safer and my insurance went down $2 a month. no inspection, no documentation they are sending me an updated policy in 2 days, and I should be good to go. I was actually thinking about switching because they are charging me a few hundred more than I think I should be paying, but now I'm gonna stick with them

40+ year old 'homemade' stove. Wife grew up with it heating their house, her dad gave it to us when we built the current house in 99. It's purring along this AM.

I’m at about 60% ash, 20% sugar maple, then oak, cherry, hickory, walnut, etc mixed in. I mix it up in my rows a bit, and try to keep most of the better heat throwing stuff for the colder months.😎

Still have plenty of standing dead ash that I'll work on over the winter.

any you guys serious enough about burning wood that you have a moisture meter?
saw a guy on youtube using one, it was $18 so I bought it, guy was talking about the best % to burn , I was all in on my first wood burning stove
I got it, its still on the counter in the box.
I threw a log that had snow on it in the fire yesterday. I'm not that serious about it I guess.

The original in Idaho was replaced with a Jotul and supplemental heat via breakfast.
