I'm looking at one of these. Not sure worth what they're asking.
What would be fair price in this market. J M. Does have safety. Couple safe dings. Otherwise exc.

I don’t like to pay more than 700-800 for them but in today’s market they seem to be bring 1k-1200+.

Sale prices on GB are usually a pretty good indicator. Not exact science but ballpark.

The factory ammo is worth $150 at its bottom line in todays market if you can find it. The guns are more rare than the guide gun but will hold more pressure. They have a 1/20 twist rate and all the range reports I read said they were accurate. Mine came with Ghost ring rear sights and white line front site. I would not sell mine for any amount of money. If you want one you may be better off to pay top end than pass. No telling when another one will come up for sale. I had to pay a lot more than that for my XLR 444. Good luck with whatever your choice may be.

I think $1,300 with Ammo is fair, but at the top.. Offer $1,200 and call it a day

Sorry, but I have to agree on the $1200. Even $1300 is not bad. These don't come up often. Especially with ammo... https://www.gunbroker.com/Ammunition/search?Keywords=444%20ammo
FTX is $65 a box of 20.
There are no more bargains on used guns.
Marlin 336 is bringing over $600. Remington 760 is bringing $700 - $800
JM, with saftey is 1983 or later. I personally like the safety as you have to cycle every round out of the gun and it prevents an accidental discharge. Don't know if it is Micro-groove or Ballard. Either is fine although the cast bullet guys favor the Ballard rifling.

I haven't seen one go for less than $1200 in a long while. I bought mine for $900, but it included a heavy gouge in the barrel from a ham fisted attempt to pull the forend causing the forend tip to cut along the length of it. I could live with that, as I intend to use this thing heavily.

But I don't think you'll see anything for less than $1200 which is in good condition. I love my 444p. The thing is just plain accurate and handy as hell. And the 444 Marlin is about as flexible of a cartridge as you could hope to find.

Yep.

$1370 was the lowest sold price on Gunbroker in the recent past. This doesn’t include tax, fees, shipping. With the ammo and the rarity, you’d be fine to buy at that price. If you want it, and can afford it, just get it.

I bought a nearly perfect one here on the fire earlier this year for 11 plus shipping.
I'd have to agree with the other posters.
It depends on how much you want it/one. I tend to pay up a bit if I really want something.

a lot of us tend to remember the "old" days not too long ago & what stuff sold for or what we paid for something!!

IMHO

Best of luck.

The 444-P pricing is very different from 336 pricing

Will bring more bucks....not sure how many years it ran....3-4 maybe

I sold my 'Outfitter 444-P' about 7 yrs ago...1999 mfg date

Hornady built the 265 gr flat point just for it

OP...$1100 w/ammo ? You did OK.......

Now learn how to buff/polish the innards

Appreciate the link. This gun very slick. However the link will be very valuable addressing a stainless 44 mag. It's rough!

$1,300 for the rifle with the ammo is a price I wouldn't hesitate to pay today. Five or six years ago, I wouldn't say that, but today that is in the ballpark. The rifle is rare, the ammo is rare, and brass alone that you can keep from the ammo, is harder and harder to come by. You have to ask yourself when you will find another and how much it will cost down the road if you do as well.

Congrats rick1977 on your new to you Marlin purchase! I'm glad I got bit by the Marlin-itis lever action bug early on before Marlin sold out to The Freedom Group and Remington took over the manufacturing of Marlins. My first Marlin lever action in .357 was the 1894SS, the stainless steel version, that I bought new at Bass Pro for under $500 and nowadays the used and slightly abused ones sell for 3-5x that price. Since 2009, Marlin lever actions with the JM stamp have increased in value and selling price so the odds are that whatever you can pick one up for today, future value and prices will only go up.
