Been looking for a new backpack.... just for everyday use....change of clothes....extra medicine... a few nick-nacks. Really want something simple but rugged....last forever type quality.....oilskin....canvas...something like that. Haven't found one yet.... here is the b!tch.... why does EVERY maker feel the need to add 12 million pockets and damn LAPTOP sleeve? That is all.

Laptop compartments are handy for sliding a level 3+ plate into it.

Because it's tactical, man, and everyone needs a tactical backpack.

I like Maxpedition

Some day packs are designed specifically for wearing diagonally across your back and tailored for either left or right shoulder. I have their Sitka model and it doesn't get in the way of the butt stock when I shoot. Highly recommend them.

They have larger bags too and won't break the bank.

+1 ... Make it a soft plate and it goes thru a scanner. wink If you are not looking for "tactical" or "camo", Swiss Gear is what 95% of the road warriors I worked with used. Took me ~8 years of everyday use to wear out my first one. The one I have now will last until they bury me. Not cheap. But worth it...

The Wenger and Victorinox brands have decent reputations with me but you should avoid their stuff that has leather handles. They don't use the best leather for these.

Red oxx makes great products, I see they have a railroad ruck that might be worth checking.
We have a dozen of their bags that have been very good.

I’ll second the Red Oxx recommendation. Check out the C-Ruck backpack. These are very well made, simple and rugged. Keep in mind this is not a back-country pack, just really great all-purpose luggage.

Best of Luck.

Do people read what the OP specifically posted, or just start naming off backpack companies?
