My widowed neighbor found her late husbands Colt revolver.
I have no use for it, but told her I would try to find out the value.
Colts website was no help. the serial number ID's 34 different revolvers.
It is a .357, 6 inch barrel with slight taper, adjustable rear sight, no under lug.
Thanks

Would the only ID on the revolver be "357"?

Need a lot more information. What is all printed on the gun. Pics if you really want an informed opinion of value.

29108 frame and crane
COLT .357 .357 MAGNUM CTG. barrel left side
COLTS PTFA MFG CO HARTFORD CONN U.S.A. barrel right side
BTW there is the letter B under the 29108 that is on the frame.
There is also INS stamped on the left side near the rear bottom of the frames grip.
Thanks

It is a Colt .357, a continuation of the Colt Trooper .38 Special series in the magnum chambering.
Later just merged into the Trooper model.

Colt .357 for the earlier ones, Trooper for the later ones...both are essentially the same revolver. It's an I frame (medium) revolver. You'll find it's a very strong, very accurate revolver.

Colt 357. Value is up in the air but the folks on gunbroker (always a bit optimistic) are asking from around $1000 to about $1500 for one. A Colt Trooper is identical but has "Trooper 357" on the barrel. Trooper 357 Hmm, as usual the fire cognescenti got here first...
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

Thanks Made in 1961, the 357 is supposed to be a higher polished version of the similar gun marked “Trooper.” The 357 marked guns are more rare and usually more desirable. The grips in the picture of the “357” are correct for that gun…

Sure like to find the correct grips. Who wouldn't? You can find them, but prices are astronomical. Here's Mine: Shoots like a dream. Don't believe folks who tell you they are just a Trooper by a different name. The Model 357 was Colt's premier double action revolver, and gives up nothing to the later-introduced Python (other than some styling differences) in terms of fit, finish, and hands-on work at the factory.
