Yesterday my dad bagged a buck with his 99EG, the biggest deer he's taken in nearly 60 years of deer hunting.

This deer came patrolling through the woods, looking for some does, when my dad first spotted him. He waited until the buck paused, quartering towards him, at about 75 yards. One shot from his .300 knocked him flat.

For the first time ever we weighed a buck before field dressing by lifting him up with the tractor scoop. He was far too long to get him all the way off the ground, so we had to tie his antlers to his hind feet. 250 lbs, 215 lbs dressed.

My dad has been hunting with this rifle since 1958, and it has taken a whole lot of deer. It replaced a 99R that some scoundrel stole in 1956.

Anyway, it was a great day on the Minnesota farm!

Most excellent!! That's an extreamly nice buck and it couldn't have been taken with a better combination, .300 Savage out of a 99. Handloads, or factory?
