Did the rings that came with the original T3 (not the T3X) come in different sizes? If not, how high were they? I was looking for some lightweight 1" rings that mount direct to the dovetail and was thinking about trying to find some used but wanted to get some info first.

Sportsmatch rings have worked well for me. They are a better option than the rings that came with.

I have only seen one size (I am assuming you are referring to height).

I have used the factory rings for years with no issues whatever. I did go to Ace Hardware and purchased some higher grade steel screws for them rather than use the factory screws which seemed to be a bit soft - a grand total cost of $1.80 for all 6 screws IIRC.

I know quite a few Tikka owners and I do not know of any who have had issues with the factory rings - it seems to be an internet myth rather than anything factual.

I'm still running the original factory rings on my T3 as well (300 WSM). No problems.

The distance from the top of the receiver to the base of the scope tube on my rifle measures 1/2 inch.

I typically use weaver bases and Burris Sig Zee rings but have also used the factory rings and have not had any issues.

As far as I know they were all the same. Roughly a medium height. I've used them in the past and liked them well enough with one change. I found all of the screws to be soft metal and the holes for the hex wrench would get round when I tried to install them. The hole is shallow and the wrench didn't get a good bite.

I spent $3 at a hardware store for better quality screws. They aren't pretty but are no worse than Weaver style rings and work as well after replacing the screws.

I know some don't like them but if you install a mountain tactical rail it opens up a whole lot of options on what you can do. Some don't like it because it adds weight, that little bit of weight for peace of mind is nothing. I also like the integrated recoil pin it has. have them on both of my Tikka's.

The main issue I have with adding a rail is that it raises most scopes with objectives under 50mm scope up higher than need be. I will do it to add inclination and/or to space the rings as distally as possible on long tubed scopes, but I prefer the Sportsmatch when it works out.

I've used the factory T3 rings on all the ones I've had including the T3x I've got now. As mentioned, the only thing I would do is buy new screws from the hardware store. I've never had any problems using them.

As far as I know, they've only come in one size, approximately medium. I was going to put a Mountain Tactical base and SWFA lows on my new T3x but didn't like how much higher that system put the scope. I pulled them off and went with the factory rings like always. The factory rings with a Burris E1 4.5-14x42 has about 1/8 inch of gap to the top of the barrel.

Another thing I've done when I have silver rings is paint them with stove paint and then put them in the oven on low heat to dry and harden the paint. Can't stand silver rings.

Same here. Nothing to do with weight but just stacking another base then a ring. Sports match rings are not perfect but they work well.

Makes sense because I'm running 56mm low light optics. But I personally did it because at the time, I couldn't hardly find any 34mm rings thus the base gave me some flexibility.

I have the one piece ring and base for my tikka and it works really well. Strong and lightweight. I believe its a reaper setup. I'll have to look when I get home

I use the mountain tactical rail with low rings on all my Tikkas. It makes for a solid as a rock mount. I know its overkill. But I like overkill.

For 30mm, I would probably go Sportsmatch.
For 1", Tikka/Sako Ringmounts.
Its the lowest possible rings for 1" !
