Afternoon all! Anyone here use Butler Creek or any other brand flip up scope caps? I’ve used them on my deer guns (shotguns and rifles) since the late 90’s or early 2000’s. If it’s raining I leave em down and flip em up if I see a shooter. Just ordered a set for my 350 Legend. The objective came in, the eyepiece one is delayed.

On alla my scoped guns.
Take em off while on stand.
Put em on if raining or snowing.
Simple thumb flick front and rear ready to go for a shot.
Especially if still hunting wind in rain or snow.

Keeps the lense,s clean and protected also walking in well before dark thru knarly schit.

I don't tape em up like Big Stick though.
That man sure likes his colorful tape. 🤦‍♂️👍🏻🥴🤔😃

I use them on all my scoped rifles. I've lost a few so it's time to tape them on.

Be aware that the rear one sticks back a ways behind the eyepiece of the scope. If you shoot from an unusual angle, you can get whacked. I know how these things happen. I was lying down using my pack for a rest. My head was downhill a bit. The elk was across a draw and higher than me so I had the rifle tilted up which put it closer to my eye than normal.

I use them on every rifle I own. It’s nice to keep the scopes clean and one less thing to worry about I. The snow or rain and one less thing to clean afterwards.

I hate the damn things. Many of my friends use them, so I am no stranger to them. I have to pause to open them, they obstruct my view as I shoot with both eyes open. IMO they don't look good on a rifle. Of course our weather is usually clear and dry. If weather is inclement I use bikini covers. Guess every thread has its detractors.

Pull my bikini cover[s] off at the start of the season, put em back on at seasons end.
On occasion I may spit on the glass and use the corner of my shirt to wipe.

You can rotate them to one side or the other. That keeps you from getting tagged by them and out of the way if you shoot with both eyes open.

LOL... that is funny. I do about the same thing without the spit.

Dust is abrasive, especially if you hunt anywhere that there's ever been volcanic activity. Wiping a lens while dry is like using 4000 grit sandpaper on it. Never wipe them without water or some kind of cleaner or you'll be taking off the polish you paid for.
The same goes for glasses, both glass and polycarb.

I started a thread in the optic section a few months back. I hate the butler creek ones so I was looking for better options. I had the chance to order the ones I want but there's definitely better options available

Love mine (Butler Creek), have them on all my hunting guns. They come off on nice days.

If they'll fit your application Vortex's flip up scope caps are the best bargain going.

Vortex Defender Scope Caps

Aadamount are also great, but expensive and lead times can be extended.

Tenebraex, owned by the the same people as Tangent Theta and who make Night Forces's caps, are also quality, but they've never made it easy to figure out which caps fit your application.

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

That's why ya fog em with your breath on the 1st and 2nd go around with a lens pen.
Water vapor that condensates nicely on the lens.
Easily seen when ya do it.

But that escaped some on that thread yesterday.

Holy fuuuuuuk dude.

That was one hell of a bite mark in that pic you put up.

Butler creek ones are easily replaceable at midsouth shooters supply down the road.
Have lost a few on FTCKY over the years.

If on a weekend no biggie .
Yank one off of one of my other 3 scoped guns.
Have only Sightron SII 3-9 x42 scopes.
Duplex reticle.
Same sight picture and eye relief locked into my noggin.

Gunga Galunga....

They always seem to open on their own when I'm walking around or to a stand when I've used them. They then snag on brush or my coat and snap off.

If they miraculously don't break, I'm still left with rain or snow covered lenses after they've opened themselves up.

I have the Leupold Aluminas on several rifles. Getting ready to try the Tenebraex brand on a Trijicon. Suppose to be here tomorrow.
