Date code is DD on Serial# S670XXXX, is the XC a factory stamp? I can’t recall seeing it on other barrels.

Here's a pic of a Stainless SPS Synthetic .243 I sold recently. From memory I think it was made in 2010. Only the date code is stamped on my rifle.

I have seen that stamped on Remington barrels several times, and it can be confusing as to which is the correct manufacture date, and which isn't. I have read that the extra stamped letters indicated that the rifle had been sent back to Remington and repaired, but as to whether or not that is correct, I do not have a clue.

So if I follow this correctly, it’s a repair code from December of 2008 on Sept of 2009 barrel?

XC = 12/08

DD = 09/09

DD looks like it is at the proper place on the barrel for the assembly code stamp. The XC stamp doesn't make sense if it is a repair date code. A question for John Lacy.

Speaking of John Lacy, is there a site or email that can be used to contact him?

I had to look up John Lacy, interesting book, a bit out of my price range.

This^^

I own and have seen quite a few M700's with extra letters on the bbl. It doesn't always make sense, probably something they were doing that day, week, or month at the factory to distinguish a particular run of bbls or run of rifles.

Being a SPS SS, and the S67 serial number, the DD code would be the correct date.

Looking at it again, the XC stamp looks a bit off. The font doesn’t look like any other I’ve seen. The “C” almost looks like it was stamped with 3 strokes of a small, sharp screwdriver. ???

The font is like nothing on my other Rems. I’ll have the gun in a week or two, hoping for no surprises.
