What I thought was a 99G turns out to be the light weight 99F. Yeah, I know, dummy. Anyhow, any difference in the desirability of either model?

Does the F have cut checkering?

F's are rarer. Don't know if they are more valuable.

I think a nice G will always bring more than an equal caliber and conditioned F, unless the F is cut checkered. Don't see many of those.

Also, almost all pre-war F's that I have seen have been well used. It's not easy to find one with condition.

An F in 22HP brings more than a G in 300.

But all other things being equal, the pistol grip and checkering on a G usually has them going for a bit more.

Thank you all. It is tempting but I just don't know. Price is nothing special but I always trade something I had years ago with no money in it and usually wind up with a reasonable purchase. It has been hunted but not abused. Has a Lyman tang sight on it. We shall see.

The early F has a feather weight barrel.

These were marked 1899

The G never was made with them.

Unless I am in error

G's were made with the featherweight barrel up until about 1926. I have one, part of a cased set, lettered as 1923. 300 Savage. Also a 1925 vintage G 303 with a lightweight barrel.
