How Do You Measure for Best LOP for a Rifle?

You thumb should be about 1 & 1/2 inch to 2" in front of your nose when you right hand is wrapped around the neck of the stock. Be sure to check with the clothes on that you would normally wear hunting.There are differnt standards for shotgunning, field,vs trap vs sporting clays

The following is from Bansner's website. Seems to work for me, but everyone's body is individual with different variables.
*The average is 13 5/8� inches based on average height of 5 ft. 10 to 11 inches. For each one inch of height add or subtract approximately 1/8�.*

When your stock seems just the perfect length shorten it another 1/4" and it will be correct.

I read Bansner's suggested formula somewhere else and it works about right for me. I'm 6'2" so it would give a stock about 14-1/8" LOP. I have about four rifles (from 7x57 to .375 H&H) at 14" and feel very comfortable shooting them from any position.

When I met Melvin Forbes and talked to him about ordering a NULA, I asked him for a recommendation. He looked me over and suggested 14-1/4" but subtract 1/4" to allow for outerwear.

I got the stock for my .416 Rigby at a full 14-1/4" because I figure I won't be wearing much outerwear if I hunt buff, and because every little bit of distance I can get from the scope makes me that much happier.

For me it will also depend on how open the grip is. If you put on the hunting garments you will were in the field,shoulder the rifle and make sure you have enough room between your nose and you thumb as it wraps over the grip.
