Found a CZ 550 in .270 Win used for sale. Asking 650.00 but will take less. What is the real value of the rifle and what would b a realistic counterbid?

The CZ550's are kind of sought after right now, since they don't make them anymore. You are leaving out some description of the rifle though, since they had different specs. The American's were very nice, some with beautiful walnut stocks. My 9.3x62 was an example of that. The European hog backs are not as nice IMHO, but some like them. Is it the American with the traditional stock? Is it a FL stocked CZ? I paid $700 for my American, but the 9.3's go for much more than that right now. As do the other offerings, if you can find them. A 270 win is more common and won't bring as much money on the open market, as a 6.5x55 or other chambering. You are not giving us condition either, so value is hard give based on loose description.. The rifle could be "worth" $400 or it could be worth $1,200.00.. Not enough info to discern value at this point..

If it's in good shape $650 or less is a good deal. These are virtually impossible to find on Gunbroker now and I haven't seen one in a brick and mortar in forever.

Shoulda bought it when you saw it, assuming it’s not a beater of some sort. Hope you don’t lose it.

I paid $750 for my last one in 270. And it had been hunted pretty hard. It has one of the aforementioned ugly stocks. But, damn it's a shooter. $650 is a steal for them right now as long as the barrel isn't shot out.

This rifle is a part of an estate that a local gun works shop has been selling for a the widow of a gunshop owner/gunsmith. I've looked at this rifle off and on for two months. It is an 550 American with the straight stock. I can't tell that it has been shot and the stock is in great shape. They don't have a lot of foot traffic and most people that come in are interested in gunwork. This is the same shop that I had a question on a Winchester model 70 two months ago. The rifle is really nice and I'm surprised no one has bought it but CZ rifles are not very popular in my area or at least I see very few of them. I will check it out tomorrow and give a better description. I bought a Knight mk85 stainless predator that I don't think had ever been shot for $350 out of this collection two months ago. I think I can get the rifle for less than $650, at least I'm going to try. Appreciate any other info that you'll can give me.

oldballcoach. Have you ever shot a CZ550? From your additional description, I'd say the rifle is worth quite a bit more than $650. You mention asking about a model 70. The CZ has a mauser action that a lot of guys like. Similar to the model 70 CRF. The barrels are generally quite good. The ones I have seen and shot were phenomenal. It likely has a set trigger, but that is kind of a weak spot on the rifle. It may also have a plastic follower, but CZ will replace that with a steel one if you ask them about it. The CZ 550 is kind of bulky and cumbersome feeling in the field. That is the main reason I sold mine. They generally shoot like varmint rifles and have good iron sights (if equipped). If you bought it for $600, you could probably sell it down the road for $1,000.00 at places like gunbroker, if it is as clean as you say.

Haven't shot a CZ. Only seen two in the area where I live. Have looked at this rifle three or four times over the last two months but I plan to go back today and really look the rifle over. Thanks to all of you who have given me advice and info about these rifles.

I think my only CZ is my 17 Hornet and it amazingly accurate. I think it is a steal also.

I prefer classic.

It's a steal at $650. My like new CZ550 American .243 Win sold for well over $1k a few months ago.

One thing...

Some of these came with a plastic bottom metal plate and/or plastic magazine follower.

I would want one with steel.. I have skipped plenty of "deals" because of this.

Seems like a trivial -- easily replaceable -- reason to pass on a 550?

I'd grab it in a heartbeat for $650 IF you're looking for a classic Mauser design and don't mind a little weight. That price is only about $100 more than a Remington 700 ADL in a factory plastic stock.

I think my CZ 9.3x62 thought it was a 17 hornet...

Went back looked the rifle over with my friend who works there as a gunsmith. Doesn't show that it has been shot, bolt surface looks brand new, barrel shows no wear, stock has two small places that looks like hits from a rifle bolt, otherwise no marks. Doesn't have any sights on it. I'm thinking it might be an early cz550 Minn. by its markings and serial #. The will take $575 forit. I think its probably worth it. What do you think?
