I picked up a prior generation Montana on here not too long ago and am debating trying to trade it to get what I really want vs chopping/threading the barrel and keeping it. I’m picky about what I would trade for, but am willing to add cash for the right trade. I have a Nomad TI in jail and I need a UL rifle to pair with it. I’m located in Western Colorado (Fruita). I will get pics later today for anyone with serious interest. I’m not looking to sell at this time.
1) Kimber Montana, Hunter or Adirondack/MA in 6.5 / 280AI 2) Savage Ultralight (6.5/280AI/300WSM) 3) Tikka Superlight (or modified to shave some ounces) same cartridges ^
There are a few other rifles and cartridges I might entertain for a UL barreled action / comparable lightweight mountain rifle that I can run a suppressor on. Nothing over 6 pounds unless it’s just barely over (2-3 oz). I bought a reloading setup but I don’t have much for components and I suck at reloading so far, so factory ammo availability is important to me. Again I’m not looking to sell at this time

Missed a detail in my OP, ideally looking for a barrel 20.5 inches or shorter.

All the rifles you listed run 22” spouts or longer. On the 280ai and 300wsm, you will be hard pressed to find 22” as most will be 24”.
Have you looked at the Savage Storm light? Meets your requirements, I would look 6.5 CM, 308 or 7mm-08

Yea I will have it cut shorter if I can’t find one already chopped.
The only Savage I’m really interested in is the UL, I don’t particularly like Savages but given the Proof barrel and overwhelmingly glowing reviews I’m interested.
I really like Win70’s as well, would add some $ for one that has been modified/lightened up. I would tolerate a few more ounces on a Win70.

I struck out trying the same idea with the same rifle….got lucky and tripped over an Adirondack in 6.5……and it’s about convinced me to sell the Montana 308 or chop it to 18”, thread it to 7/16x24 and buy another adapter….that or rebarrel to same contour with a flared, threaded end. Unless I find an ultralight, threaded 700-style gun someone wants to trade, I’m not sure there’s much out there in that vein right now.

Figured I would give it a shot here, but yes it’s certainly a long shot. This rifle is the best trade bait I have ever had of all the buy/sell/trade nonsense I have gone off the deep end into in the past 2 years.
