I’ve got an itch to change/thin some things, but can’t make up my mind.
If they were suitable for threads or I didn’t already have a threaded Adirondack I like shooting, I probably wouldn’t be musing dangerously about it.
Kimber Montana 308. Like it a lot. Stays in the safe too much though. Had considered turning it into an Adirondack (threaded/adapter).
Remington 700 MTN Stainless ADL 270….one of the early stealth ones I think. I have an older, uninstalled/unbedded Brown Precision stock that is waiting for it to wear. Standard, early synthetic factory stock for now. I have a lot of Remington Premier TBBC and Accutip ammo for this one.
Languished projects for now.
Which one would you keep/sell?
$ would likely bu used to finish the other out.

Keep the mountain rifle, a lot more going on there as far as character, as least to me. And I don't even own a 270.
Tell me the odds of putting grease on the same pancake? I Know they are there, well ice and house slippers. -Kawi

I can see that. Ammo normally isn’t a concern, but I’m waiting on some new construction to get my loaders up again, so it’s nice to have a stash of decent stuff on hand….not so much a concern with the Montana being 308.
Part of me wants to keep the 700 around just because it’s different from my other stuff.

If the montana shoots decently and cycles ammo ok I'd keep it.

I personally am more partial to a 308, a little bit of the military thing too. The 270 may be flatter, it it’s a concern with any hunting. My buddies favorite chambering is the 270.
That was a problem, my 1st rifle was a Model 70 308. It took many years before I started trying something else, the 308 suited me.
Maybe one of those things you can think about longer?

I prefer a 308.
700s suck, the 270 is for guys who suck.
The Brown stock is for a sucky action. Worthless.
I'll give you $500 for the 270Rainbow package. Shipped!😁😁😁😁

Keep them both. Sell some blood to finance your project. Old as I am, I’m not selling anything I still use, even occasionally. Too hard to replace good stuff these days.
I did just sell a very nice, but also very heavy Hawkeye .223. Replaced it with another .223 that weighs two pounds less. That Hawkeye was a good shooter, but would never make it into the field.
What fresh Hell is this?

Keep both, it's only around $100 to thread a rifle.

I wouldn't get rid of either of those rifles. So I am not much help.

I'd get rid of anything that said 700 on it.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Keep both, it's only around $100 to thread a rifle. Barrels are too thin on either to thread….unless I cut them back to 18” or so. I will be fine cutting the 308 back, but no the 270….at least that much.

I think you should get rid of the Montana.

Had a short 308. Somehow a lever action 30-30 seems like it’s better at what the short 308 was best at.
Had a light 270. Now a light 243. A reasonable trade off I think.
Sell’m both and get a long heavy 30-06.
This is probably no help.

I would keep the 700. Lot of aftermarket support for it and you already have lots of ammo (which is a good thing right now)
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

Finding it hard to imagine a scenario where this was true. 30-30 sucks at everything. IMO
