I am booked on a hunt for caribou in Labrador this September, the FDA is not allowing any meat from ruminants (sp) into the USA, do to mad cow found in Alberta this past May. the outfitter is saying we can donate meat to needy or freeze and store till ban is lifted, then he can have it shipped to us. I realize this is not the outfitters fault, however this is not the hunt I bought, I do not want to go on a hunt where I do not bring the meat home and am trying to get refund for our group, what are your thoughts.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time.
I think I've forgotten this before.

See if the outfitter will give you credit for a good portion of what you paid, for a hunt in 2004 ? He's likely going to be out some $$$ because you are canceling this year, for reasons beyond his control. And you won't be losing all of what you paid for the hunt. Or, see if you can sell your hunt at a discount to another hunter that is not so interested in the meat.
If not, well then just go on the hunt, eat some caribou steaks while you are up there, and donate the meat to the needy. After all, is bringing home all the meat really what's important, or the experience and shared memories with your friends ?
just my two cents, Scott

Hopefully the FDA will lift the ban by then. I am going to be calling my Congressman to see if pressure can be applied to either lift the ban or exempt game animals. This is the first year in the last several years that I haven't hunted Canada. Next year I am taking my wife and three kids on a caribou/fishing trip to Quebec. I hope to be able to bring a lot of meat home to share with family/friends. The meat may not be the most important thing in the world, but it adds pleasure to each day that we have it.
I sure hope everything works out for you.
