You could fire that from the hip and still see the reticle.
whats up with the short trigger?

Jabbed me one too many times... bobbed the bitch.

Believe it or not... trigger still pulled fine.

This was NOT a fine weapon.

I've got red dots on one of my Kimber .45s and my SBE Turkey gun so I was pretty familiar with the platform. This is a GAME CHANGER on a short/medium range rifle. After I got it zeroed, it is just stupid fast and accurate... just like my other platforms.

I like that I did not have to drill/tap for the base and it did not mess up the lines of the old gun. If you considered a little help with your old lever action, I think you will be pleased.

Have a good weekend...
Have you tried apertures on that or a similar rifle?
Comparison?
I love the Williams aperture on my Marlin 94 in 41, and the Skinner on my Henry in 327.

Yes IDAHO SHOOTER, I have. The aperture is a GREAT improvement over buckhorns in terms of accuracy. You need to have TIME and GOOD light to be able to use them to their full capability. That is where I have come to favor the dot sight... they are MUCH FASTER and just as accurate as peep or buckhorns... plus, the dots are MUCH better in dim light or darkness... same thing as having an illuminated dot reticle on a scope.
Thankyou very much.

I am not ready to try one on a rifle yet. But am considering one of the little solar powered sights for a Mark IV LW. Maybe I will like it enough to play with it on a rifle.

I've been thinking about adding a reflex red dot to my Marlin 1894P. My eyes aren't getting any better...

With my eyesight, it's a pain in the arse shooting open sights. Both my near & far sight are terrible. Depending on what glasses I'm wearing I either having a clear target and blurry sights or clear sights and a blurry target.
Using a scope is more of a necessity for me to hit anything. I have not put a scope on my 94's because I just don't like the mounting options for the Winchester 94's. However, I think I'm going to look into a reddot setup. I think that might be the answer to being able to hunt my 94's again.

Thanks for the post.

I put a chespo red dot on a Savage 24. 3030. Works just fine. The 20 ga barrel is not regulated the same to use slugs xthough. My 94 has the buckhorn-have a Lyman tang but it makes carrying a pain, 336 has a peep. 99 haa a peep. Handi 4570has peep and a home made taller front
.
I was always slow. Now old too.

Yes I did. The base just replaces the dove tail mount in the rear sight after you push it out. It really took me more time to watch the yourube video from Turnbull on how to do it, than to mount the base and the red dot.

My .45-70 Guide Gun has had a 1-4 Leupold shotgun/muzzle loader scope (coarse crosswire and 75 yard parallax free) since it was new 25 years ago. If I were setting it up today, I would be looking seriously at a red dot and probably go that route. The current setup, however, has worked very, very well for me for all these years and I’m one of those “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it “ curmudgeons.

My hunting pistols wear red dots and I can appreciate the utility of a RMR on a lever action.

However, Great Grampa's (also my namesake) circa 1927 Model 94 .30-30 won't be wearing one soon.

That’s a very interesting set up. I like it a lot. For someone with bad eyes, like me, that may be just the ticket.

I have a model 64 with a Williams on it now. It works but I could like a Fast Fire better.

I think this set up wouldn’t mess with the sweet balance of a M94, like a scope does.

Lever rifles aren't the only place folks are finding these useful.
