Really incredible what some do. There was a buck here that wintered in one state and summered in another. I think he crossed the Mississippi river between Louisiana and Mississippi several times a year.
That mighty river is a mile wide in some places down here!

Is it possible that the trip was in a horse trailer towed by someone who likes to screw with scientists?

Very interesting.
Maybe he was trying to get away from the collar on his neck?

Is it possible that the trip was in a horse trailer towed by someone who likes to screw with scientists? I reckon that's possible. I've heard stories of wolf collars from northern WI catching rides on vehicles with Illinois plates before (unbeknownst to owner of vehicle).

I know the answer. I live in NorthWest Missouri. He travelled rather quickly thru the areas that I hunt in. So it is obvious that he had heard of my shooting and hunting abilities and wanted to get further south were they all shoot Thirdy Thurdys. Mystery solved. All jokes aside he travelled thru some pretty heavily hunted areas during the peak of the rut during gun season. He stayed put during the day and travelled at night. He was obviously pretty savvy.
I've always been different with one foot over the line.....

Very cool story. Donβt see too many articles diving that deeply into the science & investigation portion of the story.

I wish I could find the article I read years ago. It was about a doe that summered in Minnesota and wintered in Missouri. Something like 700 miles.
Of course, this was before Facebook fact checkers....
