Beautiful, thanks for taking the time to share.
I really like the pistol grip on 64 Winchesters.

I have/had a pre 64 Win 94 inn 30-30, but my son took it to Kansas with him.

My favorite is a 1957 Savage 99F in 300 Savage. Topped with a Leupold M8 6x36 and using Winchester 180 grain silvertips. My go to rifle.

The one 100 year old rifle that I take afield more often than any others is a Savage 1920 in 250-3000 that once belonged to Larry Koller. It seems to me that a rifle once owned by the author of "Shots At Whitetails" should get the opportunity to actually take a shot at a whitetail once in awhile.
There is a 1912 vintage Savage 1899CD in 25-35 that I've thought about shooting a late season whitetail doe with, but it probably won't get beyond the thought about it stage.

POC-Stocks are unaltered. The thing I did was put the 6x on it.

Hanco, When I got the rifle all I had was 180 grain silver tips. So that is what I used. The old girl seems to love them. Who am I to argue with her? Ha ha.
I can go out to 250 pretty easily, if needed.

How’d you end up with Larry’s rifle? I bought it at a gun show at the long closed horse racing track in Pownal, VT, on 06/13/89 from Schultheis' Gun Shop for $235. It had a piece of cardboard under the buttplate with Larry Koller's name and address in Middletown, NY, on it, probably the lid off of a box that LK sold bass bugs in. A few years later, after I'd moved to Omaha, I met Larry's Son, Paul, who was a fly fishing guide in Montana. Paul looked it over and said that was indeed one of his Father's rifles and wrote a letter to me for provenance purposes. Paul said that Larry had multiple Savage 1920s over the years, so he couldn't say whether this is the rifle that he wrote about in Shots At Whitetails. It isn't a fancy rifle, having a Lyman Alaskan installed in a Weaver N-Mount, and the trigger sear has been filed down such that it is dangerously light if you don't know what to expect. It was a blind hog and truffle find for me.

Hanco, I know you use a 99 in 358 for hogs. Here is my 358. 1957 EG in 358, 200 grain silvertips used in that one. It now sports a 1.5-5 Leupold on it . Usually my second choice. I like your 300. That cartridge is probably my favorite to use.

Killed this buck Monday with a 32-40, first deer with open sights. He was facing me, hit in neck, went out right hindquarter. Rifle made 1908

Since we’re showing off our 99’s. Picked up this 51’ in 300 earlier this spring from a buddy. It was in pretty rough shape so I refinished and reblued. It shoots lights out with factory ammo so I rolled some 150 partitions atop 40.5 gr of Varget and the rest is history. Even kept the old steel tube Weaver on it.
