My great and great-great grandfathers, upstate NY, around 1890

Looks like a 76 on the left and a 92 on the right.

The one of the right is too massive to be an 1892. I believe it's an 1886. Look closely at the loading gate.

I'm thinking the left hand gun is an 1873 but something doesn't look quite right to me. Maybe it's the angle of the to the camera. At first I thought it might bre a Colt lever action, also brought out in 1873. However, when looiking for a photo, I see the receiver on the Colt is quite a but shorter than the Winchester.

Anyway, those are my thoughts as to what they are

No maybes, the left is a Winchester model 1876, the right is a Winchester model 1886…

Wonder which gun was used to shoot the trophy at their feet?

Don't know but the trophy must be bigger than it looks...appears to have dragged it out with a chain! Seriously, a very cool pic Muzzles of their pistoleros make me a bit nervous.

As mentioned, these are my great and great grandfathers on my fathers side, I'm guessing around 1890 but can't say for sure. My dad is one of ten kids, seven boys, most all of my uncles and cousins hunted, there might be 15 of us at camp, all the same last name. Really had a lot of fun with those guys, all we did was hunt in the fall for deer, turkeys in the spring and spearfish in the summer. Thanks for the ID on the rifles, gives me more info to share with my three sons.

Great picture! How about those 6-Shooters in their belts?The gentleman on the left kind of looks like Cameron Duddy one of the band members of Midland and the gentleman on the right looks like a young Ward Bond. Cool pic!

I think you're right on th e 1876. Dunno why I didn't think of it.

The revolvers in the belts, look like a Colt Dragoon on the left. It is cap and ball with an unsupported lever under the barrel. It doesn’t look big enough to be a Walker. The other is a double action cap and ball revolver, looks like it could be a Star…

Looks like maybe a bird's head grip on the RH revolver. Perhaps Colt Lightning or Thunderer?

Upstate NY like Catskills or upstate NY like Adirondacks?

Do you know that those guns were in your family? If not, those look a lot like staged studio pictures from your family's trip to the big city. A great picture from the era.

I know this is an older post but just reread it. The “trophy” at their feet is a respected member of the family, probably their bear dog. Looks like he could hold his own against a black bear.

Assuming that dog (or the guns or the clothes even belongs to them), the dog was most likely used to put meat on the table or fur on stretchers. Deer, hares, fox and coon.

The dog on the logging chain makes me suspicious the whole thing isn't dramatically staged.

Do both rifles have tang sights? I zoomed in as much as I could to try and check.
