For what it is worth I must have 7-8 B&C medalist stocks. A co worker put his a bolt in one and loved it. I have Tikka SL in one and two tikkas in an adjustable comb version, and a couple for 700’s. All fit well and the performance is top notch. There are lighter stocks but dollar for dollar they are very hard to beat. Plus they stand behind what they sell. Many will tell you otherwise but they are fine stocks!

I have a few B&C stocks as well. mostly on Tikka's and one or 2 on 700's. Are they my first pick, no, but they are not my last pick either. You will pay more to get a lighter/better stock.
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I've used Bell & Carlson stocks on a 308 and a 35 Whelen. They're a little heavy but once you get the rifle bedded into one, you'll love the accuracy.
If weight is an issue, then I wouldn't start with an A-Bolt. Your buddy could also consider going to a shorter length of pull. Even going from 13.5" to 13.0" takes off a LOT of pretty heavy material.
Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.
