I don't consider sports figures, actors or entertainers legends. They have talent but their contribution to society is worthless. There are many notable exceptions to this. Someone has to google Warrick Dunn and his foundation.

I had to do a little digging, but I found it. I should go through my cards one of these days.

On 'the play' he was supposed to stay in the backfield and block. When asked about it he said Coach Paterno taught him to "always follow the ball" in college.

Being a w. Pa. native I followed Franco all of his football career. He played for Penn State and graduated in 1972 then went on to play for the Steelers. I never heard a bad thing about him. His number 32 was to be retired on Christmas eve during the game against the Raiders, the team he was playing against when he pulled off the Immaculate Reception. It was a great era to be a Steeler fan. I just wish he had ended his career playing for Pittsburgh. May he Rest In Peace.

Rest in peace, Mr. Harris. A great player from an era when I enjoyed football. Back in the day before it became a production of Hollywood and Las Vegas.

He played when football players were real tough professionals and not a bunch of whiny man children.

The so called immaculate reception was great to watch but Harris really didn't do anything special. A deflected pass bounced right into his hands and he had a clear shot at the goal line. He just happened to be there at the right time. By pure chance, it changed the outcome of the game.

Growing up in Pennsylvania in the 70s, I just naturally fell in love with the Steelers! Franco, Bradshaw, Rocky Blier, Coach Noll, and the Steel Curtain, you’d of had to been crazy to not love them! I remember how my Steelers dominated their division, and the awesome rivalries with the Browns, the Oilers, the Dolphins, and of course the Raiders. That’s what NFL football was all about, and it was wonderful. But the NFL through the years started to lose the magic. I was still a proud Steeler fan, but the games got longer to watch, and the rivalries lost their flavor. In the ‘90s, with the Steelers no longer dominant, I started to lose interest. Coach Cower brought it back for a while, but Tomlin ain’t fit to tie his shoes, let alone Chuck Noll. But with the kneeling during the National Anthem, and the disrespect of our country, not to mention “hands up, don’t shoot”, in the 2,000s, it was wearing this Army Veteran down. When my beloved Steelers hid in the locker room, hid in of all places, “Veterans Stadium” in Chicago in 20017, it broke my back! I had always thought the Steelers reflected my values of hard work and patriotism, love of God, Country and family was there! Hiding instead of showing some patriotism, killed my love of the steelers. I posted my letters to them, and the nfl here on the ‘ Fire. I haven’t watched a game of football since, other than Penn State. I respect Franco, and I love his loyalty to Penn State and Coach Paterno, and I’ll be saddened as the rest of my football heroes die away. RIP Franco. I’ll always remember what you, and others meant to me. Prayers for the ones you left behind. Thankyou. 7mm
