I am asking if someone can tell me....Hornady Brass vs Winchester Brass (308 Win).... Can I use the same load data (is the brass close) or should I start from scratch with the Winchester? Thanks.

The only time that there may be a change, is with max loads. Otherwise, just shoot it and adjust accordingly. I doubt that you will see hardly any difference.

In my batches the Winchester is about ten grains lighter. If you find the same with yours then changing to the lighter brass shouldn't get you in trouble, but the load may need a tweak for the best tune.

I’m more often at modest powder charges, not upper end max. That’s my rifles, data averaged from several sources. With that I’ve never had an issues mixing brass, mostly commercial, non-military.

Now if one went to military brass it would be worth taking note, but again more so at high powder charges.

Don't remember who suggested a ratio of 14:1 (brass weight differential to powder charge adjustment) but that's worked reasonably well for me with .308/7.62. Where it's most needed. Have some Win commercial around 140 gr and some IVI over 190 gr. The difference in weight and capacity between WBY and RP .300 Roy brass is also large.

But a better way to assess capacity is to.....well.....measure capacity. I take sample fired casings from same rifle, trimmed to same length, not sized. H2O is the traditional filler, but I've used H380 or H335. I fill level to the brim, looking for percent difference.

Final confirmation with chrono.

Thanks to all the info. I will check as to the Sam H way,,,,also like Mr. Sourdough, I don't load to the max,,,almost always 'middle of the road'...
