Probably a pawn shop. Buy the entire rifle and part it out.

Or follow Charlie Sisk's posts on the Campfire Classifieds....

PT&G bought out Remington's inventory when they went tits up. I was able to buy a 308 barreled action with a one piece fluted bolt with the factory 5R fluted and threaded muzzle barrel for less than $400. It had a factory trigger, but no bottom metal. Bear in mind this was a little over a year ago.

Give PT&G a call. They have a lot of stuff that isn't listed on their web site.

Brownells has nothing in stock for 700 SAs -Al

They do but they're out of stock. Pretty expensive too. It's probably cheaper to buy a used rifle.

PT&G has new ones in stock(according to the site)

Brunos has a few, or did last week.

They've gone up, like everything.. I bought a stainless one just before the bankruptcy for about $350. PTG asking $550 without a trigger. Yes, finding & tearing down used rifles might be the best bet.

I'd take M.D.'s advice. I found one a couple of years ago at a local gun shop that was in poor condition. The stock was dinged and scratched up, there was some rust, etc. I didn't care because all I wanted was the action and the price was right.

Just checked Brownells, and all the short 700 actions and receivers are listed as "out of stock." Suspect this might be due to the present Remington Arms making major changes in their new version.

Yeah, the last time I needed a 700 action I first checked Capital Sports in Helena, Montana, as they always have a wide array of used guns. In that instance I was "building" a 6mm-06, and they had a used but still decent 1970s ADL .30-06 that, after a little back-and-forth, I got for around $250. Sold the barrel and stock, and got a pretty cheap action!

I once bought a used Youth Model Rem 700 in 243. Made a tomato stake out of the barrel and tossed the stock. I ended up making a pretty nice Varmint rifle out of it even though it’s an ADL. You can sometimes find these cheap.

Just cruise the local gun/pawn shops, and find a synthetic ADL....they can typically be found much cheaper than buying a bare action.

Pawn shop is the best bet for sure.

The cost of a complete new RAR ADL is still around the same as what a new bare action costs. As far as I can tell, it's been a few years since bare actions were cheaper than complete (plastic stocked) rifles.

Used rifles are the ticket. I've been selling a few lately and a local auction house seems to fetch a decent return for me even after their fee. I sold a waffle top 336 and netted me almost $700 for a rifle I'd have gladly sold for half that. The same auction, a Remington 700 in 22-250 sold around $300 which made me sorry I didn't bid.
