Or has the mighty 6.5 dethrowned them ALL? I think not

When results are in and the campfire has chosen a caliber, let's start a new thread to determine the campfires opinion of which cartridge would best suit the caliber.

Big game?? Talking USA? Africa? World?

From your comments I'd suspect you might be talking the lower 48, if so, I'd pick the 300 Weatherby with 200 grain partitions. I'd probably pick that combination for Alaska too; I wouldn't use a 7mm or 6.5mm on big bears, maybe others would. If you leave off big bears, then in my opinion, the 7mm RM would do OK, but not my first pick for bison.

I think many people would pick a 375 H&H or 375 Ruger for Africa. I would prefer a 375 H&H, though I picked a 375 H&H AI, which can shoot 375 H&H cartridges or 375 Weatherby cartridges just fine and if wanted can exceed the 375 H&H in velocity/power or equal the 375 H&H at a lower pressure.
But I wonder if the 375 would be the pick for elephant hunters, I think not, maybe start at the 458 Win and go up from there. Take those comments about Africa from a guy that has only been to Africa once and the biggest game I saw was a hippo.

I prefer classic.

If north America only it's the 338 Winchester Magnum.

For the world it's the 375 H&H Magnum.

A quick check on the Graf website of bullets available by caliber:

.224 - 270
.243/6mm - 132
.270/6.8 - 111
.284/7mm - 149
.308 - 412
.338 - 103
.358 - 32

Graf stocks about every bullet on the market, so as you can see we live in a .30cal world

Huge spectrum of animals, ranges, and situations.

Maybe that's why there are so many calibers.

If that alone justifies multiple rifles, is that not good enough?

Of course it was years ago with less of a selection as we have today ( cool names and fan boys aside alot of calibers overlap a great deal) but P.O. Ackley and Lester Womack loved the .220 swift as a one and done for about any game animal in North America.
