If you can find a Ruger American Ranch in the 7.62x39, he will like it. I shot a buck yesterday with the Winchester 123gr PowerPoint ammo and it passed through both shoulders at 130 yards. It’s stupid accurate and the cheap Tula 124gr shoots to the same point of impact as the Winchester at 100.

+1 on the Ruger Ranch. Mine shoots handloaded 123gr. Hornady into an inch and you can buy factory Norma FMJ that is reloadable for $9-10 a box. Shoots to the same point as my handloads.

+2 on the Ruger American Ranch rifle. Mine is unbelievably accurate with almost anything I put through it. I have a Redfield/Leupold 2-7X Revolution on it making a nice, light carrying deer rifle. I sometimes consider trying a different scope to see if the groups will get any smaller. The bore slugs .3105" but shoots .308", .310", 311" and .312" bullets equally well. I've got to try cast bullets next after loading 500 cases with Hornady .308" 125gr SST's. I recently lucked on to a 5 gallon bucket of once fired boxer brass at a local gun show for $25!

I have a Howa Mini with the 22" barrel and standard factory stock. It shoots the PPU 123 grain soft point moa or sometimes better. I have a Redfield 2-7 mounted on it. I ground the mag release button down a good bit so no accidental mag dumps now. It feeds slick as glass and carries well. I would not trade it for the Ruger American.
Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else.

I wanted a Ruger Ranch 7.62x39 so I set up in stock notifications for my local Academy. 2 days later 1 came in stock and I bought it immediately. Just a suggestion for your friend if y’all have any local Academy’s
