I traded into a Pre 64 Model 70 Super Grade 270 and have a few questions. I understand the rifle would had x metal butt plate but someone cut the stock down and installed a red rubber pad. It also has what appears to be a different front and rear sight.

Any suggestions as to where a person might find a proper stick or sights?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Robb

An ad right here in the classified section may produce what you need. The correct front sight will be costly.

SG stocks are occasionally offered for sale, but an unmolested example will be very expensive.
You didn’t note the year of your SG as the stock inlet would also have to be compatible with the tang on your gun.
As noted above the correct front sight (Redfield Gold Bead #254/#255) will also be very expensive. There is a #255 currently listed on eBay @ $475.00.

I believe it is from 1948. Looks like I’ll use it as is.

You could try these guys, Net it would cost a pretty penny.

I am sure there’s a few floating around that custom makers have made redundant for the original rifle.

Good luck with your search Sir.

Happy New Year to you all!

Your best bet for an original sight, likely yet roosting on an era 70, already descended to "shooter" from collector grade. Typically the non-original factors less likely as disturbed front sight. Just to be sure, we're speaking about the dovetail top element not inclusive of a screwed or soldered on base ramp base. Such as major tilt reflecting non-original "machined integral ramp of barrel proper. Re the SG stock concurr completely with likely quite expensive as becoming disproportionate of value added. Those SG stocks if basically yet decent are particularly handsome in my view even as "collector defined" non-original. If that "red recoil pad' isn't rock hard, it's a replacement anyway! smile
Good Luck!

Best!
