My LGS has a consignment Duramatic (M-101) at what appears to be a good price. It is in very good shape and comes with two magazines. Are these reliable, accurate pieces?

The Duramatics were “different” from the other High Standard semiautos of their day, not just in their looks, but in their internals.
The others varied in their refinement/sights/features, but the Duramatic was a different beast, altogether. Not saying they’re “bad”, but not in the same class as their others of the time. A Sport King is a basic Supermatic, but a Duramatic is essentially an orphan.
Accuracy will be fine, but the trigger won’t be anything near what a Supermatic or Victor or even a Sharpshooter or Sport King would be.

Great plinkers but as fburgtx said " they are different ". I'm a big fan of Sports Kings and HD Military models along with the higher end Victors and Supermatics. If it's a bargin snap it up.

I went back and looked again. Appears little fired, breech face is flawless as is the bluing, grip and magazines. It even had a yellow #4 anchor in the chamber. The seller has a handful of his grandfathers handguns consigned. For $325 with two mags and a pretty neat leather carry "bag" it came home. Appreciate the replies.

EdM: Good for you on the acquisition. I have a BUNCH of High Standard pistols (most all of them are heavy barrel target types) but none of the Dura-Matic style. Enjoy that nifty rig and let us know how it shoots. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Ed- I've found over the years that my High Standards like standard velocity ammo better than the stingers, hot stuff, etc.................. Just my opinion. Great purchase. Tell us how you like it.

High velocity ammo and High Standard pistols should not go together. Leads to cracked frames and sometimes enough standard velocity without recoil spring/buffer replacement will also………just saying. Otherwise High Standard pistols are wonderful - as others have said the Duramatic is a different beast but mine have proven very accurate.

I appreciate the replies. It reminds me of a forged and machined Ruger MK 1.

EdM: Great looking pistol. And a great photo - thanks for sharing. Is there a "brand name" on that pistol pouch/carrier - I had one once, long ago, and I believe it was made by either "Black Sheep" or "Hunter". Enjoy. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Do not shoot a lot of High Velocity Ammo in it as Penn Dog pointed out. Frames can crack...and it is very disheartening to see a HS with a cracked frame.
Thinking about HS pistols , I probably have shot them as much as any of my other pistols. There was a time when all I had to shoot was my Dad's Sport King. I spent
every penny I had on ammo. There was not an old insulator left on the poles along side the RR tracks that we walked in Northern Wisconsin. I got very good with
that old pistol.
Wish I could shoot that good now. I have not shot my HS- HDM's , one has a scope on it, 2 with original iron sights , for a while now. My Trophy's and
Sharpshooter have been resting too. I shoot wheelguns much more now. Funny how things change.

The zipper "handle" is labeled Straight Shooter.

Had a Sharpshooter. It was wonderful. The Trophy......eh I don't care for bridged rear sight. Forget who made replacement barrels w pic rail.
Sucks when ya can't run irons anymore. Iron sighted HS is a wicked rig.

I have one and have found a copper washed bullet feeds better than a plain lead nose. The lead causes it to hang while going into the chamber

Theres some web info on tuning HS mags. My Sharpshooter came w 4 + mags and none would run, gun was LNIB. Buddy sent me link to article, tweaked mags and they all ran, slow or fast......flawless. Proly best damn gun deal I ever got.
Because mags used and out of spec.
