22 LR 30-06 12 Gauge
Really surprised nobody has mentioned 12 gauge yet. Probably one of the most versatile cartridges out there. Aren’t any of you wing shooters? There is absolutely no way I could limit myself to only 3 to hunt the world if shotguns and rimfires are included. If that is the rule, we are virtually having the 1 centerfire rifle discussion. I have no plans for dangerous game or Africa, so my 3 centerfires would be: 223 Rem 6.5-284 Norma 30-06

It would be my tweaked Ruger 10-22, my Kimber Montana 270 (haven't fiddled with the recently acquired 30-06 Subalpine) and my tweaked stainless 375 H&H M70.
Conduct is the best proof of character.

22 LR 270 Winchester 375H&H This. I firmly believe an person should own an 308win or 30-06 simply for logistics, but I'd be very happy with the former trio provided a shotgun could be added.

223 270, 280, 30/06, 7 or 300 mag. Choose your poison. 375 HH
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

To clarify, three cartridges to handle all of your personal hunting needs, which can encompass the globe but might simply be your home state if that's all you ever want to hunt. As the OP I guess you can clarify the rules I could be happy with a .17 HMR, a .257 Roberts, and a .44 magnum revolver. I'm going sneak a .58 caliber muzzleloader in past the roolz 'cause it does not fire cartridges. I'd love to add a shotgun but if I had to give something up, that'd be the thing since I don't shoot birds that much anymore. Tom

Let's fugk up the universe and say that a shotgun and rimfire are already included, so the three options are on top of that.

My world is Pronghorn, Deer, Elk & Moose in NA, And PG & DG in Africa, and the need to find ammo in Africa if mine is lost in transit. So, only (3) would have to be: 30-06 375H&H 458Lott (which also shoots 458 WM)

I'll also admit to being a fugktard for not stating that up front. My apologies, but it's a long winter and we have plenty of time to shin kick. I'll take my beatings now...

Glad you clarified, I was going to take my ball and go home. My choice would be 270, 338-06 and 416 Remington. Not a big predator/varmint hunter.

The belows would be my pick, for today anyways. I like different rifles & cartridges too much to be satisfied with 3. These would work for me in my North American world.
