Mine have been soaking all night. I’ll probably cook them for lunch.

Who else on the ‘fire honors the tradition of having black-eyed peas on this date?

yes, I hate them but wife insists we have them for good luck

I guess we've had pretty good luck so I won't argue for one day out of the year.

Always with ham and greens.

have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues, can you bend them guitar strings

Soaked overnight. Have a ham bone boiling off in a pot for the meat. Be making corn bread later as well.

Throw mine a crock pot on low with browned breakfast sausage, let the go all day. No soaking. Fool proof.

This afternoon I'll fix up some cornbread.

No trouble dropping a duce later on......

Yes, will have them for lunch today. Wife and I discussed yesterday. Neither of us had them as kids, but somewhere along the way, we started having them on Jan 1 every year.

It's a southern thing when the north invalid and raid and burned the south. They did not take the black eye peas as they thought they where animal food unfit for human consumption. So they though it was luck to have something to eat to get them threw the winter. That's what I was always told.

I have snails soaking. Compound butter is ready, wife is making baguettes. It's gonna be a caloric blowout.

Purple Hull peas, corn bread, cabbage and a pork shoulder is on the menu before the afternoon hunt. I'm not sure about bringing luck and fortune, but it's good eating.

Said it here before. I think the tradition started because if you eat them that's likely the worse thing that's going to happen to you all year.

Might as well eat a bowl of dirt.

It's so your luck with food can't possibly get any worse that year, if you start at rock bottom
