Still see these available new floating around on different websites in the $200 to $250 range. Made in the Philippines I believe. How good are these as set it and forget it scopes? How do they compare with scopes like the Burris Fullfield/E1 line?

They are pretty nice have 1 xtra 3x9 Vortex Viper BDC For sale PM for details.
Took a Leupold 2.5X8 B&C rect. off that came back from Leupold and was wonky on adjustment's , replaced it with the Vortex Viper and all was well prefer the Vortex Viper 2x7 to the 3x9 myself.

The glass in the 3-9 Viper is way better than the Burrs to my eyes. The lower power Vipers seem to be better scopes than the higher power offerings.Only problem I found with the 3-9 was the reticle. It may work fine for your application, but my hunting is done in the woods,in the South.Reticle was way too thin at low-light for me…

The reticles are just too thin for a hunting rifle, but they are a great value in that price range.
History repeats itself because it worked. If it didn’t work in the first place, it wouldn’t be history but another lost story of insignificance.

Pretty nice. I have owned a couple. Personally, I found the BDC reticle very useful (I live and hunt in the wide open west). Optically they seemed a little 'dark'. Fairly clear but not in the same ballpark as the newer 2.5-10x44 model. Overall good value for $200-$250.

I’ll be the first to say I am not a Vortex fan, but I do have a Vortex Viper 3-9x40 that I am happy with. I got it at 50% off from Optics Planet a few years ago. If you buy a Vortex, the Viper line is as low as I will go. I’ve had issues with Diamondbacks, and that’s where my dislike for Vortex comes from.

I have one. If you can get one of these for $200, IMHO that is a pretty good buy. I agree with above post as I have the bdc reticle and in dark woods it is not ideal, but usable. Considering the reticle, I am not sure I would go above $200 for this scope. Just my opinion. Glass is good. Scope is light. Eye relief is good and pretty much the same throughout the zoom range. I do not have any trouble getting behind the scope at all. I thought the glass was identical to the viper HS model I had also made in the Philippines.
