For those who make sausage/brats/sticks, which stuffer do you use? I have the stuffing attachments for my 3/4 hp grinder, but that doesn't seem to work too well. I have a small 5 lb vertical stuffer, but it seems like all I do is refill it. I would prefer something with metal gears. What are you using?

My 5# hand crank stuffer works well, if I can get one of the kids to help.

I have a Hakka brand/style 15lb stuffer. Lots like it for sale online. Works great so far after 3 seasons and greater than 500lbs through it has been without issue and shows no signs of wear.

I honestly wouldn’t even recommend any tweaks to it

Had the academy sports 5lb before this. Sucked terribly

Is there better than the Hakka . Probably. Worse? For Sure. I’m happy with it though

20 or 30 lbs , MIN , unless you live in apartment watching too much of the wrong TV.... you're making 10 lb to 25 lb of sausage in a batch ... now if you throw that in a 5 lb stuffer and put your caseings or ground meat tube packs..or whatever ,you're going to find your happy ass feeding the stuffer all the time...then along with what's left in the bottom of stuffer that ain't coming out the tube with out a filler/hand pak ...YOU get the biggest one you can.... load up and get some work done ..you get a small one and you spend your time loading it . Buy once cry once..... afoot peddle is your best friend... 30 years pluse worth a moose thru mine

Have a LEM 5 pounder and decided it was to small after using it a couple of times. Just bought their 15-pound stuffer but have not used it yet. Most of the bigger stuffers can't stuff "meat sticks" so I kept the 5 pound model as well.
LEM usually offers 25% off sales a few times a year.

There is wisdom in this statement.

I tried stuffing some small sticks with my 7 lb Weston stuffer (rack and pinion type drive) with a too viscous mix, and it sprung a gear, vissually couldn't see it, but every revolution it would lock up. Replaced the whole gear set with a set from Walton's (they said on the phone it wouldn't interchange, miracle of miracles, it must have came from the same Chinese factory as Weston's, because it was a direct fit).

Anyways, unless you get your meat mix to a real runny consistency by adding a lot of water, the big diameter stuffers won't stuff the small diameter casings well.

I'd like a big stuffer for doing summer sausages and such, but am too tight to buy another.

I have the Walton's 11lb stuffer and stuff about 50lbs of snack sticks and 50lbs of bologna with it each year, and have done so for the past 5 years or so. The high and low gear option is great. When we do the bologna we stuff in high gear and snack sticks drop it back to low. Trying to do snack sticks is almost impossible in high gear. I would like to step up to the 20 or 30lb electric stuffer but had to purchase a new vacuum sealer this year so hopefully next year we can.

Agree about the Academy stuffer. This is our first time trying sausage links. We bought is on sale. While it works the gears are not that smooth. I will probably invest in larger foot pedal stuffer before next season. Possibly a mixing vat also.

I make small batches with a LEM 5 pounder. I make 8-9 pounds, so I fill it twice. Leaves little in the bottom and tube, easy to clean.
I also have a 1/2 hp cabelas grinder, and a huge Toledo chopper grinder. So if I have big meat like a deer I go with the Toledo. 90% of the time, the 5 pounder gets used.
