Apparently one of the roommates who survived saw a masked man in the house, he walked past her and out through the sliding doors...

Why didn't she call 911 at 4am?

Perhaps with two years of mask mandates and millions of people "masking up," she just assumed it was a normal sight.

I still see people here wearing masks while walking out in the fresh air, driving alone, riding bicycles, etc.

Not normal for a stranger in your house with a mask at 4am. this wasnt one of her roommates with a mask on.

What's hard to believe is he left a Ka-Bar leather sheath on the bed! Apparently his DNA was on it.

Because many of these kids are hard drinkers and are oblivious to wth is going on.
It's a wonder any of them learn anything at all.

An aside (sorry for the ramble).....In 2009, our daughter went to that school, it's an hour from our home. At 16 y/o, she was the youngest on campus that year.
Huge mistake letting her go there! Rue the day.
She spent most Friday nights watching over her dorm mates who were sick and flayed from alcohol abuse.

I'll never forget stopping in there to show daughter my Idaho bighorn head/horns I had taken in southern Idaho--was enroute to home after my hunt. It was midweek and most of the students there were drunk off their asses and still partying. Absolute clownshow.

Thats a whole nother level of drunk for that situation to not sober you up, check on your roommate and call the cops, hundred bucks says roomate was doing a little more than drinking. Or was that big of a party house that strangers coming and going was the norm at all hours of the night?

Wouldn't surprise me at all.
What happened to these kids was absolutely despicable and heartbreaking, but 90% of the students down there are hard partiers that don't know wth is going on half the time. Was the door even locked at the residence? None of them probably had any idea.

Who's hanging at the 'grub truck' at 2am on a midweek school night anyway? Sad situation.

One thing that I noticed in my younger years where I enjoyed the bar scene and college parties that fraternities, sororities and multiple student housing is that they are NOT security conscious and locked doors rarely happen. It’s also not uncommon for “strangers” to wander in and around the house. Wearing a mask is not the indicator of nefarious intent that it would’ve been 3+ years ago and seeing morons still wearing masks is not unusual.

The male voice that said “I’m going to help you” wasn’t necessarily the perp saying it since there was a male victim in one of the rooms, it could’ve been his voice the roommate heard. The poor girl that had the killer walk by her while she was frozen defenseless will likely NEVER be the same. The nightmares that will plaque that poor kid and the memories of extreme fear will be her constant companion unless/until she’s able to bury that memory.

I pray those that were spared can put their lives back together.

Of course not, but I've seen plenty of poor judgment in this regard.

Yep, 'twas the consensus when I'd visit the U of I Moscow campus midweek or any other time.

No way to stop all the loons out there, but the world we live in now is too f cked up to not bring the 'A' game, especially on campus.
My kiddo went two years and transferred out of that chitshow.

I'm sure you'll make a great mother some day.
