What is this scope worth??? It’s mint But just seems odd it’s a 1”tube I don’t know anything about this one I don’t own a s&b Is this a good one to start with It’s a tank But I think I like it

It's a great scope -- rather large but one that provides superb light transmission and resolution. The A4 reticle is bold and will stand out in poor lighting.

I like the looks of it better with a 30mm tube, but that's a personal preference. I had a 1-inch 8x56 for a while but eventually sold it.

Used prices are all over the place right now. The last 1"-tubed 8x56 I saw that sold was near-new and went for $675 shipped. I think I paid around 580 for mine, but that was maybe 7 or 8 years ago.

NO idea what it is worth. I would keep it for sure, they don't come down the pike every day.

Make sure it is 1" and not 26mm.

26mm rings can be drama.

I have used one of these the last 4 seasons and love it. I also have S&B variable power model scopes, but the fixed power 8 x 56 is better for low light then all of them. For $500, you can't go wrong. $700-$750 would be the top of the market used price for these now.

TPS makes 26 mm pic rings in a variety of heights.

I hardly ever see these scopes pop up anywhere. The last one was a 30mm version on GunBroker a week ago that sold for $720. The S&B website lists the other version as 25.4mm / 1”. A couple of their Klassik models come in both tube diameters.

Personally, I really like both S&B scopes I own. You can get a new 8x56 Hungaria for $839+. The illuminated version runs about $1,050+ once you add shipping (which is often from Europe). So submit an offer on a used one accordingly.

There's a lot to like.

At one point in time they made the 8x56 with 1 inch and 30mm tubes. I highly doubt that there would be any difference optically between the two.
I actually prefer the look of a 30 mm tube.
Seems less drastic to me..
The Hungarian version can be had at Optics trade for an unbeatable price as a new scope.
You have to spend a stupid amount more money to beat this scope in the dark.And all that extra money gains little.

+1. I have the 1" tube S&B Hungarian Klassic 8x56 with #4 reticle and absolutely love it. I bought it used a couple of years ago on the Fire Classifieds and I paid around $600 (the scope was about 10years old). It is by far my favorite scope and is mounted on my most often used hunting rifle. The things I like about it are: Excellent low-light capability (this was an eye-opener - pun intended); consistently accurate scope adjustments; the scope's zero stays put (does not wander after adjustments). Though I have not tried the 30mm version, I really like the 1" version of this scope. This is due to the scope's length sitting a good bit out over the rifle's barrel and I can (and do) use Medium height rings (0.95" height rings) which provide just enough scope bell clearance and seems to me perfectly balanced for the 25" barrel on my rifle. I discovered that using this scope for deer/hog hunting is not a hinderance for the typical short distance shots I have in my area - just keep both eyes open when lifting the scope to eye level and the target is easy to find. I solicited the advice of Bobby Tomek before I bought it and he did not steer me wrong.

One last comment: I am paranoid of getting a counterfeit scope, which seems to be a real problem these days. So, I obtained the scope's serial number from the Seller and then called S&B office in the USA to confirm it was one of their scopes. Good luck.

I had this first mounted on a Ruger 77 Scout in 450 Bushmaster and then built a Mauser 98 in 450 Bushmaster where it resides now. Love it.

I was quoted $800-900 for one today.
