Buy a Remington 700 VLS in whatever caliber tickles your fancy and shoot it. If you do a search, you'll see there are many among us (myself included) who heap praise on the VLS.

Hey,im new on the board also.I dont know much about the guns you listed except for the 7.62x39(if thats what it is supposed to be)I have only shot 7.62x39 wolf ammo and it is fun to shoot especcially in an sks but for varmit hunting i think the 22-250 would be good,i hear alot of good things about it and people reccommended it to me.I dont think the 7.62x39 is accurate enough for small varmints, and the 22-250 should be able to take varmint at long range.I think you should see about other peoples post besides mine, someone who has more experience with these rifles.I just thought i would give my opinion<Good luck with your choice

I'd say shoot what you got. My main varmint gun is a Sav 99 in 250 Sav, but I have used a K-31 Swiss, SKS, Swedish mauser, 300H&H ( yea it's overkill but so what lol). Basically if you know your guns limit & yours use it. Out of all those you listed if I had to buy a gun I would probably pick the 22-250 cause you can find ammo anywhere for it, it shoots flat & you can reload it with 223 bullets & they are easy to find & accurate.

i like a rem 700 vls. a great value for varmint rifles, and accurate to boot!

for caliber, that depends on the range you intend to shoot. i prefer high bc's for long and very long range shooting, and the 22's just don't have it. but if your shots will be inside of 450 yards or so, awfully tough to beat a 22-250. limited noise, minimal recoil, and enough oompf to make impressive kills out there. for longer range shooting, i like the 308 and 243 (in that order), but that is just personal preference.

in order to make the vls a great varminter, it needs the barrel floated and trigger tuned. beyond that depends on how much you like messing around w/ your rifles. i am an incurable tinkerer, so all my bolt guns get glass bedded as well.

the 7.62x39 i don't think is accurate enough for varminting, but the only 7.62x39 i've shot has been thru my ak, and it isn't real accurate, either. never shot a 6.5x55 and really have no desire to do so.

also, for a true varminter, do not cheap out on a scope. you need a quality scope to see small targets off in the distance, and the $89.99 8-32x40 special is not gonna cut it - the resolution is just not good enough. for plinking that kind of a scope would work, i suppose.

Hunting is not a matter of life or death. It is much more important than that.

Not sure about your question. Do you already own rifles in the calibers mentioned? If so, what types of rifles? Or are you intending to buy a rifle from that caliber list? If you already own the guns, then the one with the best accuracy potential will depend more upon the rifle than the caliber.

If you are going to buy one from that list, you have more options, make some decisions first......

1) What is your budget for rifle and scope?
2) Will you be loading for it or shooting factory ammo?
3) What kind of varmints? (ground squirrels, prairie dogs, 'yotes, or...????)
4) What kind of hunting will you do? sitting at a folding bench, shooting from prone off bags or a bipod, driving around in a truck, or hoofing it over hill and dale??)

I won't suggest other calibers because it would just confuse the issue. The 22-250 and 6mm (I assume you mean 6mm rem) are the better choices from your caliber list. If you use factory ammo, the 22-250 has the most options by far. The real question is what rifle? a standard sporter or a specialized heavy barrel varmint rig.

Think about those 4 questions then get back to us....
