Hello, Just looking some info, on a soon to be acquired 99EG in style 2 (waiting on shipping) serial number 4238xx, in .300 Savage, which comes up as a 1944, Called Cody Arms and unfortunately there is no real info for this, from them...Any of the experts have any possible insight on how many 99's were made around those later heavy war years, particularly 1944...can't imagine it is a high production period for the firearms companies to civilians. Any other relevant info would be appreciated..thanks in advance

From the serials I've seen, a little over 3000.

Savage was always ahead of the war production goals and had time to assemble some civilian firearms when they got caught up. Most likely from left over parts produced before the war.

Have an 300 Savage EG SN: 413333. Been told that it was most likely made in 1941.

I'd say 1942. From the letters and sales data we've been able to see, 1941 ended just around 410,000.

Can you provide an approximate date on when Savage began to move into their WW2 effort?

They started producing Enfields in 1939 at Chicopee, I think. 1942 they got started on Thompson’s and 50 cal machineguns at Utica. Sharon, PA was bigger guns and shells, I believe.

Most likely should have Color cased rotor. Pretty EG other that that.

Savage was contracted by Auto Ordnance Company to start building Thompson submachine guns for the British in 1939. Pages 82 and 83 of "A Collector's Guide..." covers Savage's military production in WWII. The Utica plant received the Army-Navy "E" award for efficiency in 1942, '43, '44 and '45. They were usually ahead of their production goals and this probably allowed time for the production some civilian firearms such as the 99 in this post.

From data collected here on the 24, I don't see case-colored rotors till a little after the move to Chicopee. Most in the 1951-1953 but never totally. Always seems to be brass mixed in.
