Have any of you put together a 270 Wby rifle with a 1-8" twist barrel? If so, which bullets have you tried and what were the results? Preferred Barrels even offers a 1-7" twist .277 barrel.
I've been tinkering with the idea of having one built and seeing what the old war horse can do with today's longer bullets.
Thanks

I put together a 270 WBY with a 27" 1-8" Hawk Hill barrel on a Stiller Wraith to take to Africa last year.
Tried 156gr Hammer Hunters over Retumbo for 3170fps and 150gr CEB Lazers over 7828 at 3200.
The Hammers shot marginally better (3 shots into sub half inch) so I took them.
Killed black wildebeest, golden wildebeest and warthog with no issue.
Don't think I gained anything over my fast 7mms but it's a cool gun and fun project.
It is worth noting that the factory freebore aligned perfectly with the 3.650" magazine and the long 150gr+ monos.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

I have 1-7.5” #2 Krieger .277. I’m debating what gun it’ll go on yet. I have a 270 WSM and have also thought of using it on a plain old 270 Win.
The 270 Wby sounds like a blaster though. Neat idea. Nothing gained over the 7mms but it is a nice hunting set up. The heavy Hammers and the Wby sound like a wicked combo.

I have a 1in 8, load 140 Accubonds for it. It shoots really well.
