The 336 .32 I purchased has an old LYman 3x. The gun and scope fits me like a glove and can’t wait to get out there and site it in.
However if I decide to put another scope, i suspect a 4x or 2-7, 1.5- 4 x 24 may work pretty well. I hunt in New England, primarily Connecticut and most shots are under 75 yards.

The slim line of the Lyman look really good mounted and would want something close.

Opinions and recommendations wanted!

I also have a .32 Model 94 I acquired from my sister and that is more of a momento piece, sold it to my bro in law 42 years ago.

Thanks for all of your input - that’s what makes this site what it is.

I've had a Jap made Weaver 2.5x on mine for years and couldn't wish for more. I only wish those scopes were still made.

I hunt here in Central NYS with 336’s in various calibers and find a good 2-7x a perfect optic.

I’m going to look for a slim line scope no larger than 7 power is my guess,

I put a 2X7 Nichols on my 35 Rem 336, mostly because that was the only one laying around at the time. If I was doing it over, I'd probably go with a Jap made Weaver 1.5X5 that I have laying around now.

For 75 yds and closer about any of the low power straight tube scopes should work very well. Try mounting it on a Warne one piece base in old timey Weaver low rings. This is the lowest setup you can get and is perfect for these old leverguns.

If its your primary sight I would go as low as 2x if you can find one. In new england brush/forest you want as wide a FOV as you can get.

Second to that as light as you can find, lever guns are supposed to be light. Most scopes these days are not.

I’m going to shoot in the next few weeks with the existing OLD 3x Lyman which fits the rifle perfectly. I’m a gear junkie to a fault and really like the newer glass particularly early morning and dusk.

Bust as mentioned new scopes are heavier and lowest power is usually 4x which i have mounted on my slug gun.

The slimiest line appears to be the 1.5-4 x24. Again, as mentioned, 75 yards may be the longest shot. I shot a buck (longest in CT that i took) a 67 yards in cover, through the neck with a single shot 7x57R.

And had them as close as 11. One buck has been showing up just below the stand. Almost have to stand up to shoot over the branches and that is 20’!!

If your eyes are young and sharp, why not a peep?
It's all I have on my Lyman sidelock and it hits at 100 yards. I have the same on my turkey gun.

This past year I bought three M336 rifles. An eighties CS model 30-30 and two '52 SC models. One in 32 WS and the other a 35 Rem.

I don't really care for straight tube scopes. Two of these have been scoped with Bushnell Elite 2-7x32 and the other with a Leupold 4x33. They are light and fit the guns well.

Check out the Vortex Diamondback 1.75-5x32. I have one on a Browning BLR in 358 Winchester. Huge field of view and nice thick plex reticle. For woods ranges it's plenty bright. Mine basically stays on 3x.

I like a 2-7 Leupold or Redfield on mine, mounted as low as possible.

I own several Marlin 336 rifles and most of them wear a 2-7x Leupold with the heavy duplex reticle. They stay on the low end most of the time but I have turned them up to find a hole in the brush to thread the bullet through. They are listed as shotgun/muzzleloader scopes or at least they were. I've been very satisfied with their service.
I have them mounted in several different ways from the old Weaver rings and bases to Talley ring/bases combos. The cleanest look by far are the Talleys but a close runner up is Warne bases with Burris Z rings.
Whatever your choice keep it mounted low and the power turned down and you should have a game taking machine.

If you’re going to scope a lever, it needs to be a straight tube. Anything else looks goofy.
