I found an old 110 in the old man's gun safe. I'd like to get a new stock and barrel for it, give it a new life. Anyone have a good resource for such a project? Thanks in advance for any advice

It's a nutted barrel, so just about anyone who does barrels will do that. I had McGowen do a barrel for one of my 99s and was very happy with the results.

As far as the stock goes, the 110 is a common model that has been in production for a long time, so there's quite a few aftermarket stocks out there. That's really just a matter of preference. If you're just looking for something cheap and functional, Hogues are pretty easy to come by... they are definitely not works of art, though.

I'm not versed on the 110 but seem like there are variations in stocks so you need to know the serial # and model.

Those old Savage bolt guns were SHOOTERS! The earliest ones had an aluminum butt plate with the Savage Indian head on it as I recall. Have you shot it? It may surprise you and need nothing. Honor the old man and hunt it just the way he did.

It probably has a birch stock that is clubby. Measure the distance between action screws to find out which stock is needed. The barrel may be a shooter, so unless you want a different caliber, just shoot it. The biggest improvement us usually in the trigger. either tune or replace.

How do you know that it was made in 1989?

What cartridge is it currently chambered for?

Plain wood or pressed checkering?

Savage was in poor shape back then, Ron Coburn hadn't had time to get the company back on its feet.

If 1989, catalog shows it as "walnut finished hardwood" - so birch. Checkering would have been a decent pressed checkering, not the skip line but rather a pattern almost like the really early 110's.

1989 May be a cast receiver model. Not Savages best work. You will need to know the screw spacing to get the correct stock.

What caliber is it now? Is it a long action? All long action screw spacings are the same. Depends on your mag type, internal, detachable.

Serial number will date it.
