I follow gun values especially Rugers but am I missing something on this older M77?
Why is this one so expensive ?

Seems $1000 high to me. Maybe they think its worth more because it has iron sights. My tanger in 30-06 doesnt have those. I don't collect tangers but maybe it might be worth that to someone who does.

That’s just crazy, and an example of one.

I recently sold a Hawkeye All Weather .223 in a factory walnut stock through a dealer. It went for $900 on GB. There was almost zero interest in it locally, even at the level my commission sale finally yielded me, so the decision to sell through the LGS worked satisfactorily.

I’m in the process of “training” my local postmaster on mailing guns. When that’s completed, I’ll have a better option for future sales, and without the need to travel to a shipping hub and argue with a clerk as before, which isn’t even an option now under the new rules.

What fresh Hell is this?

100%. Have a 20 year old canvas/shearling coat that I'll never be able to replace post-BPS.

As mentioned, Cabelas BS pricing for starters.

But....it's pretty minty for its age. And,,,,, it's a hollow bolt. Not a hundred percent sure here, but thinking they are the scarcest of all. Quite a few less made than flat bolts.

I thought they only made the flat bolt the first year of manufacture?

I think that high as well. However, tangers seem to be going up in value. Of that actual sales on GB, very few are going for less than 1K.
That rifle is clean for sure. But not 1800 clean.

Flatbolts were made nearly 3 years, with some left overs mingling with the hollow.

The hollow, made less than a year, (some records say 7 months) with left overs showing up here & there. The 71 prefix on the Cabelas rifle is in correct time frame.

The only thing you're missing is the crack pipe Cabelas La Vista lit and smoked dry.

The idiot at that Cabela's better learn to price firearms better, or he may find himself out of a job. Just sayin..

That one in particular is a joke. Not all of them are. I've found some good deals at some Cabela's, so your statement is flawed..

Sounds like a fairly rare piece.

I'd be more inclined to agree with you concerning guns specifically if I hadn't had the same experience at multiple stores myself. I think it used to be that the guy who ran the used gun room actually knew something about rifles and priced them based on it. And he could/would haggle with you based on it. Now, when you take something in, or try to negotiate on something they already have in stock, the guy is either 1) looking on a computer to see what he's allowed to sell it for; or 2) calling a supervisor to see what he's allowed to pay for your gun. It's a total waste of time. Same thing as Bass Pro. The last time I went in there (2 years ago), I had talked to the alleged manager of the firearms counter on the phone about a specific rifle and received a ballpark quote. I wasn't making the drive if we weren't even in the same stratosphere. I get there, wait for an hour while he screws around on the phone, and then he offers half of what he'd quoted and tells me it's "what the computer says he can do."

Generally speaking, which is to say not just related to firearms, Bass Pro has gutted Cabela's. Everything is cheaper quality. Cabela's clothing -- especially jackets and pants -- used to rival Filson for quality. Not even close now. But you can buy 3 foot candy canes and all the plastic deer antler picture frames you want, so who cares?!

I would think "made in the 200th year" models would be the most valuable.
