A bit long at almost one hour and he does ramble a bit but the video is well worth a watch. PJ
Our forefathers did not politely protest the British. They did not vote them out of office, nor did they impeach the king, march on the capitol or ask permission for their rights. ----------------They just shot them. MOLON LABE
I had a 7x57 and thought it would be buried with me, before I got it. Darn thing was so muzzle light that it was impossible for me to shoot offhand and the balance was awful so, down the road it went. I will admit that they are a handsome carbine.

Shew me thy ways, O LORD: teach me thy paths. "there are few better cartridges on Earth than the 7 x 57mm Mauser" "the .30 Springfield is light, accurate, penetrating, and has surprising stopping power"
I like my #1's and over the last 3 years I have used a single shot more that anything else.
good for you , i have hunted with a Ruger #1 for 25 years or more , 20 some years with my custom 257 Weather mag. Ruger #1 , but now turning 70 years old and bad shoulders i am buying a 257 Roberts Ruger #1 ,its the same brass case as a 7x57 just necked down to a 25 caliber . i have shot some very nice bucks using my Ruger #1 i see no reason not to continue hunting with a Ruger #1. my 10 year old grandson tried on targets a bolt action rifle ,an AR-15 and a Ruger #1 for deer hunting, grandson made his own decision what he was going to use his choice was my 220 Swift Ruger #1 with a big grin ,he shot a big doe with another big grin. i also got a big grin too i was with him in the deer stand !
Pete were the same age, I don't have bad shoulders but am a cancer survivor. Last year I took a nice free range Aoudad with a custom #1 in 300 H&H in west Texas. I'll be going back in September to the same ranch for Gemsbuck and will either take the same gun or a #1 in 35 Whelan. Will also hunt Fallow deer further east. I'm thinking either a 7MM-08 or the 300 Savage both built on the #1 action.

i would take the 7mm-08 for everything less recoil but will thump a animal hard .Big Stick uses a 7mm-08 plenty with i think 160 gr. type bullet. also easier to find ammo for 7mm-08 too in a pinch. if you wanna a real screamer that`s fast ,accurate ,and will do a bang -flop on any of those animals , and has great ballistics try a 257 Weatherby mag. in a Ruger #1 103 gr. Hammer bullet velocity will be close to 3700 FPS , recoil is not to bad either and out 500 yards not many cartridges will do what this cartridge does. good luck with your hunt. for me in the future including fall of 2023 i will be using a 257 Roberts in the north woods of Minnesota , just have not decided on bullet grain weight yet ? 75 gr. ? or 103 gr ? Hammer bullets.
Thanks Pete. I have a 257 Weatherby in a Ultra Light it's my go to rifle for Antelope. In the Roberts mine likes the 110 grain Accubonds. Both are great rifles but are bolt guns. I reload everything so the 300 Savage is no problem.
Cool video...thanks for sharing. I also had the RSI in 7x57. It was absolutely gorgeous, but I let it go to someone else.
I remember in my youth when I walked into my LGS and they had a RSI sitting in the rack. Brand new and chambered in 30/06. The price was $350. In my youth, someone's voice whispered in the back of my head cringing at, "...only one shot." My ignorance let that person's opinion influence me so I didn't buy it. The Ruger #1 has since become my hunting rifle of-choice for the last couple of decades plus so yes - I do kick myself a little for not picking up that '06.
My uncle left me a little money when he passed and l bought a RSI in 7x57, his nickname in high school was little gus so I had that engraved on the rifle.

I've never sprang for the RSI, but I sure like Number One rifles.
I remember seeing a few RSI's on the rack at our local gunshop, but they were .270, and though it's a great cartridge I wanted an RSI in 7x57 or 308 Winchester.
