personally I've used butches for a long time. but in a bunch of estate stuff I got there was some Montana extreme I've been using it a little bit lately and just checking to see what everybody else thought..

after receiving my new borescope yesterday I would say the next few days I'm going to do lots of gun cleaning and comparing and looking in the barrel just to see. hey what can I say it's winter time and sometimes I get bored..

Just remember, those things can make a tiny scratch look like the Grand Canyon and a speck of dust look like a boulder. Mine scared me to death the first time I looked down my favorite rifle's barrel.

absolutely. last night I was looking inside a barrel of one that I carry in the truck a lot and found three or four specs of rust in it and I know it looks way worse than it probably is but still disappointing cuz the gun actually hasn't been shot much and the outside is pristine I guess I need to keep the inside old a bit better than I do. I just hate oily bores from bad experience on first shots..
but after cleaning it good you can still see the little pits that left where the rust was. that leads me to the next experiment I guess Dyna bore coat

+1 on the Butch's, after being a Hoppe"s No. 9 user for decades I prefer Butch's.

Haven't read the thread, but the two given choices are far too widely available to be the best; that has to be some obscure local product or else a magical homemade concoction worked up over years of experimentation.

Montana X. I’ve used most of the over the years. It’s the best I’ve used. I think it’s way better than Butch’s.

Gun Slick is good to. Guess it Hoppe’s now, bought out Gun Slick as I recall.

Butch's works reasonably well if there's little to no copper fouling.

ME is definitely a lot better for copper removal, but it does have a pretty strong smell.

Bore Tech Eliminator is the best of both worlds for me & it really has no odor & is safe to allow to soak in the barrel if necessary; best not to leave ME in the barrel more than 30 minutes or so.

I usually clean with Butch's or Shooters Choice, then brush & let soak as may be needed with BTE.

Wipe Out is hard to beat if you really need to soak a barrel for overnight or more.

I use the Montane X-tream Copper killer at the end of my cleaning routine just to check that my mining is finished.
I use Butch's and Wipout don't even use a brush anymore

Butches was on top when I had my first long range rifle built & its lasted the predicted number of rounds & maintained good accuracy. So when I needed more, I bought Butches again.

.
even after trying to be a dick in the pistol forms to me on 1911s I will agree 100% on everything you put here from my past experience and what I'm currently seeing.
the Wipeout I have played with some but I've always been a little paranoid about leaving it overnight...

For bores with lots of old copper JB bore paste breaks the oxide surface on the copper.

This allows the copper solvents to go to work on fresh copper surface.

I have positive results with DBC on a properly cleaned bore.
