I was shooting on Friday at the range and suddenly hit a face full of fragments/ it wasn’t bad but it got my attention. I knew I needed to check the barrel for an obstruction so I made sure chamber was clear, spoke to the range attendant so he didn’t think I was a yard looking down the barrel. I have bullet stuck in there and it’s lodged pretty tight. Any ideas, do I just need to disassemble the gun and poke from chamber forward or does anybody have a Better idea? Experience?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, it’s like 2” from the muzzle. So I’m thinking take it aprt. By the way, it is. 10-22
I’ve got the mannlicher stock, so a bit of a trick, the band near the muzzle is a trick.

Carolina Shooter: Sorry this happened to you. I am glad your eyes were not injured. Is this Ruger a bolt action or a semi-auto? Is there a possibility of TWO bullets being in the barrel - i.e. a squib round you did not notice the bullet not exiting the barrel then firing another shot "into" the squibbed bullet? Thus your minor injuries. Check to see if the barrel is bulged. I have "tapped out" LOTS of 17 HMR jacketed rounds over the last 20 years but (knock on wood) never had to tap out a 22 L.R. (lead) round. IF... there are a pair of lead slugs down there I would seek professional help - or if it is a Ruger 10/22 sporter weight barrel there are lots of them new on the used market cheap and not such a loss if the TWO slugs form an unmovable clog. Best of luck and again glad you weren't injured. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
Thanks Varmintguy! It’s a 10-22 model; and I can’t say for sure if there are two rounds. One for sure. I suspect that from the backflow, it’s only one.

if its a 10/22 and the barrel can be removed easily.... couldnt you figure out a way to measure the length of the obstruction?? to see if the obstruction is 1 or 2 bullets
That was a pain in the ass. Taking that barrel off, was a chore. I’m sure the next time will be a bit simpler.
I can only assume that there were two because the tip of the one I pushed through was non existent. More of a crater. But it came out with ease.
I took the advice here and put beak free lube at both ends and let it soak for quite a while.
