A 9mm 115 gr. bullet at 1100 fps doesn't really rate a Plus P designation.

If you're serious about using a 9mm, maybe you'd be better off with the Hornady American Gunner load with the 124+P at 1175fps. That's faster than the load you mentioned, with a heavier bullet. The SKU # is 90224. It's a pretty stout (for 9mm) load, and shoots reasonably well in all my 9mms. It's my "carry load" in a 9mm. I'd think it would be a lot better than a 115 at 1100.

Not when use can use a 148 grain hard cast flat nose that will seriously penetrate.. smile

I think JWP can testify to its effectiveness on porkers.

I carry it as an all around load, versus just strictly handgun hunting.

Makes life a little less complicated.

Edit to add:

OP, the others already know, but since you are new, you likely may not. In the interest of full disclosure. This is a load that I produce and sell. I own a small custom ammo outfit. Lost River Ammunition Company.

Good ammo. Shoots well in my Glock 19s and 43x and 48

This load does 1060 FPS out of my Sig P-365XL and 1120 out of my P-320.
I killed a pig in my field with the P-365XL dropped him immediately and exited

Accurate load for sure

The Hornady handgun hunter load is a mono bullet, which is probably why itā€™s speed is low for its weight in a +p loading. I would suspect that it would be a good load on whitetail sized animals and smaller. Iā€™m guessing it would also be a good self defense loading. It certainly wonā€™t penetrate as well as the cast loads above.

I would think that more velocity would help a mono bullets expansion capabilities.

The point about a mono being slow isnā€™t about performance, itā€™s about case capacity. You canā€™t drive a mono as fast as the same weight traditional HP or FMJ. They are long for their weight and take up more case capacity than a standard bullet. So it is perfectly plausible that the Hornady load is:
1. Operating at +p pressures and
2. Is still ā€˜slowā€™ compared to equivalent weight jacketed lead bullets

It will be interesting to hear any reports from the load. On paper it seems kind of ordinary, but I would assume that it would work as intended in the appropriate sized game.
