I am looking at a gently used 20ga. BSS at my lgs. Sometime previously, a recoil pad was added which lengthened the lop. The stock was cut straight which presents a challenge for replacement. I am looking for advice which will allow me to put a thinner pad or a plastic butt plate back on the shotgun. I do realize there will be some fitting at the stock/pad junction too. Thanks for you advice.

If it’s already cut square all you need is to buy your preferred pad, sand the mating face of it square, install it and grind to fit.
You aren’t going to find anything prefit that will look worth a crap. Get a new grind to fit pad and fit it or pay someone competent to fit it for you.

You don't say how thick the current replacement pad is but assuming it's a Pachmayr or similar at about 1-inch in thickness, you have the option of of a Pachmayr #200 Decelerator at slightly less than 1/2-inch, which is only about 1/8-in thicker than the original hard butt plate on the BSS.
