Going to have Outkast Arms build me a 220 Swift. 24” 1 contour CLR. I’d like to shoot 62s but may shoot 55s. What twist rate do you recommend?

i would go 26 inches for a 220 Swift ,i did and maybe a 10 twist barrel ? i use 60 gr. Nosler Partitions at around 3500 -3600 FPS this bullet shot great for me good coyote bullet does not ruin hides . probably a good deer bullet too ?

I am one of the few Swift lovers left around here, but to your question a standard 1-14" twist works fine with 55gr bullets. you might have to go 1-12" for the 62gr. But I would recommend a 1-8"twist in a 5 or 6 groove barrel in case you want to shoot the heavies at some point Long live the Swift

The 60 grain Partition worked very well for me in a 12 twist 22-250 on deer.

They built me a Nula 22” with a 10 twist last year. I’m shooing 62 and 65 game kings with no issues.

Maximum of 12 twist so you can use 53 grain Vmax. If you plan to use 75 ELDM, an 8 twist is right but a standard reamer will have too long a throat (and so they stick out further when close to the lands) if you want to stack a standard magazine short action with more than about 3 75 ELDM's in the mag. So if using 75 ELDM's you either need an extended mag if you want to stack 4 or 5, or you need a reamer with a much shorter throat.

I had a pre-64 in 220 Swift. I traded it away because it wouldn't even shoot 60 grain Partitions.
I just recently rebarreled a 22-250 to an 8 twist barrel. I've shot some amazing groups with 40 and 50 grain bullets. Can't see any reason NOT to use an 8 twist barrel

Can't see any reason NOT to use an 8 twist barrel I wonder why the bench rest crowd uses slow twist barrels. Must be a reason. Tony
Run it up, until you blow it up, then back it down a bit.
